Metin Akbaş, General Manager of the Republic of Turkey State Railways (TCDD), chaired the Middle East Management Committee (MEMC) Meeting. The committee, which gathered for the first time with the participation of officials from Iran, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, discussed the regional cooperation studies to be carried out in the railways.
At the meeting of the International Union of Railways (UIC) Middle East Regional Board (RAME) held in Istanbul; The Middle East Management Committee (MEMC), whose establishment was approved, held its first meeting. The meeting, chaired by TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş, was attended by representatives of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI), Saudi Arabian Railways Company (SAR), Jordan Hejaz Railways (JHR), RAME Regional Coordinator and UIC Passenger Director Marc Gugion, UIC Railway System Department Head. Christian Chavanel, UIC Freight Director Sandra Gehenot and UIC Senior Cargo Consultant Hakan Günel attended. Head of International Relations Department Asir Kılıçaslan and Head of Education Department Cüneyt Türkkuşu were also present in the study, which some members attended via teleconference system.
After the opening speech of TCDD General Manager Metin Akbaş, regional cooperation issues in railways, RAME's financial balance sheet, RAME activities planned to be carried out in 2022, RAME Vision 2050 document, the World High Speed Railway Congress, which is expected to be held in Morocco in 2023. The issues of participation and UIC meetings to be held in 2022 were discussed.
Metin Akbaş, General Manager of TCDD, underlined that the development of railways, which is environmentally friendly and economical compared to other transportation modes, will accelerate with international cooperation. Metin Akbaş noted that the work to be done on the railways will also improve the relations between the countries.
