The “Regulation Amending the Regulation on Energy Performance in Buildings” prepared by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change was published in the Official Gazette. Accordingly, within the scope of the green development vision, climate-friendly projects will be supported, and a gradual transition will be made to the concept of 'Near Zero Energy Building' with high energy efficiency. Stating that the new regulations will make significant contributions to the fight against climate change for the future of Turkey, Baumit Turkey General Manager Atalay Özdayı drew attention to the fact that 1 cm increase in the thickness of the thermal insulation plate provides a 20 percent more efficient thermal insulation.

According to the Regulation on Energy Performance in Buildings, as of January 1, 2023, all buildings with a total construction area of more than 5 thousand square meters in a parcel will be constructed with a minimum energy performance class of 'B'. By increasing the energy performance of the buildings to "B", the thickness of the insulation materials used in thermal insulation will also be increased by at least 2 centimeters. In this context, the minimum thickness of thermal insulation material will increase from 5 centimeters to 7-8 centimeters in Istanbul, and from 6 centimeters to 8-9 centimeters in Ankara. Baumit Turkey General Manager Atalay Özdayı emphasized that it is time to take action for environment and nature-oriented approaches in every field from industry to buildings, saying that when the buildings that have a significant share in greenhouse gas emissions are thermally insulated with high quality materials in compliance with the standards, energy savings will be achieved.

'U-values should be improved on every surface for climate-friendly buildings'

Saying that it is now a necessity to invest in thermal insulation against global warming and environmental disasters, Özdayı said: “In many developed countries, especially in EU countries, annual energy limits are reduced to 30-50 kW per square meter, buildings are thermally insulated so that their energy efficiency becomes high. is being designed. The most important factor for modern and efficient thermal insulation is the thickness of the thermal insulation board. An increase of 1 cm in the thickness of the thermal insulation board during thermal insulation provides a 20 percent more efficient thermal insulation. As Baumit, the company with the largest number of products, systems and services in terms of thermal insulation in Turkey, we continue our efforts to raise awareness of the importance of thermal insulation in the society. In this regard, we also support the “One-way U-turn” movement of İZODER, the umbrella association of our industry, of which I am also a member of the board of directors. We draw attention to the need to improve U-values on every surface such as roofs, facades, windows and floors. As Baumit, we are ready to provide all kinds of support in this regard. We believe that the new regulation will increase the number of insulated buildings in our country and renovate existing buildings will make a great contribution to the fight against climate change, to the economy of the country and to consumers' own economies.
