IMM President, who announced on 2036 July 13 his declaration of will that Istanbul aspires to the '2021 Olympic Games' and 'Paralympic Games' Ekrem İmamoğluIn this context, made a series of contacts in Lausanne, Switzerland. After meeting with International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, İmamoğlu said, “This is an important journey. Definitely a journey that Istanbul will win under all circumstances. Good luck to all of us,” he said.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlumet with Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), within the scope of Istanbul's request to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The meeting, attended by the President of the Turkish National Olympic Committee and IOC member Uğur Erdener, was held in Lausanne, Switzerland, where the headquarters of the IOC is located. İmamoğlu, who visited the IOC Museum before the meeting, made his first assessment on the subject in front of the Olympic flame, which was burning at a point close to the museum building. “I hope we want to light the Olympic flame in Istanbul in 2036. And in line with this goal, we are in Lausanne today. We are actually taking the first step in Lausanne, it's about 2036," said İmamoğlu and expressed his feelings with the following words:

“WE WANT THE OLYMPICS; WE WILL SUCCESS”

“This step; A step on behalf of the city of Istanbul, on behalf of the 16 million people of Istanbul, on behalf of the 85 million Turkish nation. As a nation, we know that we have to do this job. Olympic rings symbolize the embrace of the world. In order for the world to embrace, we also need the tightest hug as a nation. If we succeed in this, we will perhaps hold the most important Olympics in history in Istanbul. Because it is not possible to organize the Olympic games on two continents in any Olympics. Istanbul is a very important step for a Muslim country to organize the Olympics for the first time. We are taking the step. We are taking this step by wishing that our nation will be blessed and lucky in those days. I wish and want that every moment from now on, not only me and my team, but also the people of Istanbul and all the administrators, all politicians, the whole of Turkey, from Ankara to Edirne to Kars, will follow. We will succeed.”

THE MEETING LASTED 1,5 HOURS

Having held a meeting with IOC President Bach that lasted for approximately 1,5 hours, İmamoğlu said after the meeting, “It is very productive, experiences will be shared, there will be an open dialogue, and we have both information about Istanbul's past experiences and information about this journey of Istanbul. We have started the process in which the IOC's journey will include the description of the processes related to the candidates from today. I can say that it was a very valuable, very sharing, very sincere dialogue. This is an important journey. Definitely a journey that Istanbul will win under all circumstances. Good luck to all of us. I sincerely thank the IOC administration and the President of the Turkish National Olympic Committee, Mr. Erdener.”

He also met with the mayor of Lausanne

Imamoglu announced the "Istanbul Sports Strategy and Future Plan" on July 13, 2021, and revealed his will, announcing that the city aspires to the "2036 Olympic Games" and "Paralympic Games". Before his appointment with IOC President Bach, İmamoğlu also met with Lausanne Mayor Grégoire Junod.
