Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) Adana Provincial Coordination Board (IKK) made a statement on the Light Rail System. In the statement, it was emphasized that the implementation of the 2nd Stage light rail system project is essential.

In the statement, it was stated that all elements of urban life, transportation, which has an important place among them, should be arranged in order to facilitate human life and raise living standards, and it was stated that cities with problems in urban traffic due to immigration, unplanned growth and unplanned urbanization were stated in the first place.

URBAN TRANSPORTATION MUST BE DIRECTED TO PUBLIC TRANSPORT

In the statement, it was stated that public transportation has positive contributions to the economy, human health, energy efficiency and the environment, and said, “Directing urban transportation mainly to public transportation is important in terms of raising the living standards of the city. Factors such as global warming, inextricable traffic problem, greenhouse effect as a result of harmful gases emitted by vehicles negatively affect human health and human life.

In addition, it was stated that the rapid increase in fuel prices in recent days once again showed how important public transportation is in transportation, and the following views were included:

“The main purpose of public transportation systems, as a public service, is to transport people living in the city from one point to another in the most economical and healthy way. The main purpose of urban passenger transport is “transporting people, not vehicles”. Achieving this goal in the best way is possible with public transportation systems.

One of the most functional means of public transportation is the metro or light rail system. One of the biggest factors in the development of metropolises is the importance given to public transportation. In many metropolises, public transportation is mainly done by metro or light rail system. As in Paris, London and Moscow, the metro weaves the city like a network.

THE DEBT OF THE CURRENT SYSTEM IS A LOAD ON THE SHOULDERS OF ADANAANS

For this purpose, public transportation projects have been initiated in our city and the light rail system has been implemented on a limited route. The process started with a project and financing problem, continued with the wrong route, and could not be transported to the regions where students and staff live intensely, and to the Çukurova University campus.

The existing light rail system serves a section consisting of 13 stations, starting from the Mental Health Hospital station to Akıncılar station. It is an undeniable reality that this route is not sufficient. In the words of our people, the Adana Light Rail System has become a production that "does not go anywhere" and that the people of Adana have paid their debts for years and will continue to pay.

POLITICAL CONCERNS MUST BE AVOIDED

In order to make the light rail system more profitable, the 2nd stage light rail system project that can reach the university, Balcalı Hospital and the new stadium has been prepared and submitted for approval. After it was submitted to the first approval, the project was returned by the central government for correction due to some deficiencies. The project was submitted for approval after making the necessary corrections, but the implementation of the project was not approved due to borrowing.

In order to make the light rail system functional and to ease urban transportation, the second phase should be implemented. For the realization of this project, which Adana needs, political concerns should be avoided and the understanding of improving urban life should be brought to the fore.

This city is ours; As TMMOB Adana İKK, we care about the city we live in, as always, we will continue to stand against wrongdoing, support positive steps and share our thoughts with the public.”
