Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Hacettepe University and Anatolian Civilizations Museum will bring Turkey's first “Visually Impaired Museum” to the Capital in cooperation. In the museum, whose construction works continue at full speed in Bentderesi, the distinguished works exhibited in various museums of Turkey will be presented with three-dimensional replicas.
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues to implement practices that facilitate the lives of visually impaired individuals in line with its goal of 'An Accessible Capital'.
As part of the cooperation protocol signed between the ABB Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage, Hacettepe University and the Anatolian Civilizations Museum, Turkey's first “Visually Impaired Museum” will be opened in Bentderesi in the Capital.
OUTSTANDING WORKS WILL BE EXHIBITED AT THE MUSEUM
The works in the Museum for the Visually Impaired, which will be opened in the Ankara Ulus Cultural Center building, will consist of distinguished works exhibited in various museums of Turkey.
Stating that the works will be presented with three-dimensional replicas, Head of the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage Bekir Ödemiş shared the following information about the museum project they prepared for the visually impaired:
“During the works of our Ulus Closed Dolmus Stations and Cultural Center Project, which we undertook the construction of as the Metropolitan Municipality, we made a change in the project. As a result of this change, we have reserved an area of approximately 185 square meters for our visually impaired citizens, which includes a museum, reception, wet floors, amphitheater and administrative building. Maybe there is a section for the visually impaired in other museums in Turkey, but this will be the only museum with full capacity for our visually impaired citizens. As a result of the tripartite cooperation, as Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, we will have brought a Visually Impaired Museum to Ankara and Turkey. Artifacts in both the Anatolian Civilizations Museum and Turkey's distinguished museums will be selected and their three-dimensional replicas will be made for our visually impaired citizens.”
A FIRST IN TURKEY
Project; It will be a first in Turkey in terms of preventing the difficulties in accessing information for the visually impaired, creating a social memory in terms of culture and improving the understanding of museums for everyone.
Stating that it will be an example of a museum where people can meet in common areas, not separating people from each other, but using developing technologies, the Coordinator of the Visually Impaired Museum, Hacettepe University Faculty of Communication Assoc. Evren Sertalp also said:
“This is a project we are thinking about scanning important artifacts in various museums in Turkey with XNUMXD scanners and then taking printouts from XNUMXD printers and presenting them to the visually impaired. In the first place, we plan to scan important works from different museums and present different works each year. First of all, we will start with the works in the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. We are proud of being the first in Turkey.”
The Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage also aims to make digital archives of the materials obtained from the scans for the museum, to keep them and to prepare them as educational materials.
