Pros and Cons of URAYSİM Project Should Be Discussed

Odunpazarı City Council President İsmail Kumru has issued a press release regarding the Rail Systems Test Center to be established on the Alpu plain.

Emphasizing that the pros and cons of the project should be discussed with the relevant non-governmental organizations, chambers, local administrations and public institutions in the city, Kumru said;

“There are different opinions about the necessity of the project and the fact that the region where the International Rail Systems Test Center will be established, which has been discussed frequently in the public opinion in recent days and is planned to be built on the fertile lands of the Alpu plain, is the most important agricultural region of the city. The issue should be discussed at a table where all non-governmental organizations, chambers and authorized institutions operating in the city on the subject come together and common sense should be activated. People of Eskişehir should be properly informed about Uraysim.

As Odunpazarı City Council, we think that the authorities did not give acceptable information about the function and necessity of the centre. Our stance on the wrongness of the place where the center is built is clear. We would like to announce to the public that we will resolutely demonstrate our stance at the Coal-Fired Thermal Power Plant and the Sevinç Coal Oven, as the place where this center will be built is the most fertile lands of the city. We know that the rail lines in the project will cut off the flow of water to the fertile lands, and we invite the authorities to show mercy. Leave the Alpu Plain alone, which is the most fertile land of Eskişehir, in this period when we are experiencing great economic difficulties and we understand the importance of agriculture better.”
