Special section on asbestos in the tender technical specifications

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has prepared a special technical specification that includes health and safety precautions before demolition operations. Accordingly, the company that received the tender will collect, pack and transport the asbestos-containing material, according to the determination report received by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality from the laboratory accredited by the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TÜRKAK) before starting the demolition process, and will start the demolition process after cleaning the site. In all these processes, it will comply with the Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Law, and Regulations for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road. Asbestos removal works will be carried out by personnel with "Asbestos Removal Certificate".

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will use the vacant area after the demolition with a smaller building that will house the mayor and municipal council hall. The new building will be determined by an architectural project competition. The project, which is aimed to be supported with public, cultural and artistic functions, will be open to the contributions of urban stakeholders such as professional chambers and non-governmental organizations related to a participatory method on the scale of urban design including the immediate environment. The competition will be open to national and international participation and will be concluded in two stages.
Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer He announced that a smaller building, in harmony with the historical square, was planned, where the presidency and the city council hall would be located instead of the building to be demolished.
