President Soyer Explained Izmir's Preparations for EXPO 2026 in Dubai

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer Attended International Horticultural Producers Association conference in Dubai. Making a presentation on the EXPO 2026 preparations that Izmir will host, President Soyer said, “We will build an EXPO area like no other.”

President Soyer made a presentation about the work in Izmir to the world Expo organizations and AIPH members at the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) conference, which was physically held for the first time after the two-year pandemic period, between 7-10 March. Soyer visited the EXPO area in Dubai before the conference.

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer, said during his contacts in Dubai: “İzmir, which has connected the east and the west for ages, is preparing to become the meeting point of the countries of the world once again. The EXPO area we will establish will be a universal source of inspiration that sheds light on the cities of the future. Here, we will create an important example of circular cities that live in harmony with nature, each other, the past and change. We aim for EXPO İzmir to meet with 4,7 million visitors in six months. The project will be an extremely important economic lever for İzmir and will bring a brand new urban revitalization area to our city. We have already started our preparations and we will build a unique EXPO area with a very systematic work.”

4 million 700 thousand people are expected to visit

Izmir's hosting of the International Horticultural EXPO (Botanical EXPO) in 2026 was unanimously accepted at the AIPH General Assembly as a result of long-standing contacts. Botanical EXPO, which will be held with the main theme of “Living in Harmony” between May 1 and October 31, 2026, is expected to be visited by 4 million 700 thousand people.

EXPO 2026, which will open the door to international trade for all producers in the sector from seed to tree, will contribute to the development and international recognition of İzmir.

2030 EXPO highlight

EXPO 2026 İzmir is also seen as an important milestone on the way to the 2030 World EXPO. The fairground to be established for EXPO will be the meeting point of thematic exhibitions, world gardens, art, culture, food and other activities. While the area will host guests from all over the world with its gardens and activities during the 6-month EXPO, it will later be brought to İzmir as a living city park.
