Marmara Municipalities Union and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Assoc. Dr. Tahir Büyükakın examined the works of the GOSB-Gebze-Darıca Metro Line at the Darıca beach station by descending 25 meters below the ground. A considerable distance has been covered in the tunneling works of the metro project, the foundation of which was laid by Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality and later transferred to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure as a result of the initiatives of Mayor Büyükakın. The metro project, which will create an important alternative to the road transportation between Gebze Organized Industrial Zone, Gebze and Darıca districts, will ensure that approximately 55 thousand vehicles are withdrawn from the traffic in Gebze daily.
THE PRESIDENT GETS 25 METERS UNDER GROUND
The Gebze-Darica metro line, which is under construction by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and will connect Kocaeli and Istanbul with Marmaray when completed, is planned to have 11 stations and a line length of 16 kilometers. President Büyükakın, who examined the part of the work going on at 11 stations, storage areas and 20 shafts at the Darıca beach station by going 25 meters below the ground, said that around 330 thousand passengers will be transported daily with the activation of the metro. Darıca Mayor Muzaffer Bıyık, AK Party Darica District President Ufuk Acay and contractor company officials accompanied Mayor Büyükakın in his examination.
“METRO WILL SERVE 330 THOUSAND PASSENGERS EVERY DAY”
President Büyükakın, who received a briefing from the technical personnel about the project and learned that the construction is progressing rapidly, said, “The 16-kilometer-long metro line to be built between Darica-Gebze and Gebze OIZ will significantly relieve the public transportation need of this region. On this route, where around 330 thousand passengers will be transported daily, 55 thousand vehicles will also be withdrawn from traffic. In this way, a very serious distance will be covered in terms of carbon emissions. People's quality of life, both in terms of air quality and the standard of public transportation, will rise to an extremely high level in terms of safe, fast and comfortable transportation.
“IT HAS A GREAT EFFORT AND WORK HERE”
Continuing his statements, President Büyükakın said, “According to the progress report information we received from our friends, our lines on Darıca will be finished in the spring of 2023, and again towards the end of 2023. Our friends are making a great effort so that the line between Gebze central station and OSB will be put into service in the spring of 2023. At the end of 2023, they will commission 3 stations on the Darica side. It's moving fast. There is a lot of effort and effort here,” he said.
“WHOLE LINE WILL BE GOING IN 20 MINUTES”
Reminding that years ago, they walked through the construction phase of the Eurasia Tunnel between Sirkeci and Haydarpaşa from one end to the other, Mayor Büyükakın said, “I am experiencing those feelings again here. These are truly historical moments, memories. I hope the subway will pass through this tunnel very soon. People will reach the GOSB side from Darica very quickly. This entire line will travel in 20 minutes. Our brothers and sisters living in Darica are unable to pass the station in 20 minutes. With this population growth, with this geographical location, there is no other way. There is only one thing that will make this region comfortable, and that is the subway. Hopefully, this metro will make a very serious contribution to the quality of life of our people in the region.

Stating that the project is a proper and very accurate work, President Büyükakın said, “We owe a debt of gratitude to our President, our Minister of Transport, and everyone who contributed. I hope Darıca and Gebze will benefit from the comfort of the metro as soon as possible, and it will be beneficial for our Kocaeli as well.”
