The Pandemic Heroes Monument, which was built by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for the health workers who worked with great devotion in the pandemic, was opened with a ceremony. The Pandemic Heroes Monument, built by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality for health workers who worked hard during the pandemic process, was opened with a ceremony. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor attended the opening of the Pandemic Heroes Monument, which was placed in the July 14 Democracy Martyrs Square as part of the 15 March Medicine Day activities. President Soyer, reminding that the health workers who are at the forefront of the fight against the pandemic have paid the greatest price, said, “This monument is a modest symbol of our debt of loyalty. I know that no matter what we do, we cannot repay the sacrifices of healthcare workers. For this reason, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has tried to hug Izmir's health workers since the first day of the pandemic. We dedicate this work to health workers who have faced all kinds of difficulties during the pandemic process. Izmir and Anatolia are one of the places where modern medicine was born first in the world. The first doctors of the world were trained in these lands and healed in war and peace. Don't be offended by anyone. Our doctors belong to these lands. These lands also belong to the physicians. We will continue to do our best not to allow a single physician or health worker to leave these lands. We will continue to stand behind each of them until the end," he said.

Stating that they organized a Turkey-wide competition in September 2020 to determine the project of the monument, the President of Tunç Soyer, “Our jury chose this project by Barış Resistance Altınay among eleven works. It was decided to build our monument, which represents the doctor, nurse and filiation team.”

Izmir Medical Chamber President Op. Dr. Lütfi Çamlı said, “We lost 553 of our friends due to this preventable disease. They could not go home for days and nights. They put up a relentless fight against the pandemic. Many municipalities, especially Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, showed solidarity with health workers. We will protect our labor, our profession, our future and our country. We are here, we are not going anywhere.
