Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said, “We want to build an artificial intelligence ecosystem that creates value on a global scale with the competitive technologies we have introduced. We will work with determination to ensure that our country is among the top 20 in international artificial intelligence indices.” said.

Minister Varank attended the opening of the 1st Artificial Intelligence Summit “AI [Tomorrow Summit]” event organized online by the Artificial Intelligence Policy Association (AIPA) with a video message. Stating that artificial intelligence continues to spread rapidly in all areas of life, Varank said that a transformation process has begun in which the developed technologies reshape human life, economy and society.

PIONEER TECHNOLOGY

Explaining that companies using innovative technologies and artificial intelligence platforms are now seen in the lists of the world's most valuable brands, Varank said, "Artificial intelligence is one of the leading technologies that affect the public, business world, economy and society as a whole. Health, education, transportation, communication, cyber security, finance, smart cities and gaming are the fields that artificial intelligence technologies feed the most.” he said.

GIVES AN EXAMPLE FROM TOGG

Giving an example from Togg at this point, Varank said, “Togg brought technology and art together in accordance with the brand DNA at the Consumer Electronics Fair in the USA, where it took the world stage. He explained his brand goals and vision with a new rhythmic and timbre melody created from 2 classical Turkish music by using the technique of visualizing words with an artificial intelligence algorithm and again by machine learning.” he said.

DIRECT IMPACT

Noting that artificial intelligence has the potential to directly affect the international balance of power, Varank noted that more than 60 states have announced their national artificial intelligence strategy and that serious steps have been taken and investments have been made in this area.

NATIONAL AI STRATEGY

Noting that artificial intelligence is one of the main carriers of the development goals determined in line with the vision of “Digital Turkey” and “National Technology Move”, Varank said, “In this respect, we prepared our National Artificial Intelligence Strategy last year with the Presidency Digital Transformation Office and all relevant stakeholders. In line with our strategic priorities, we focused on human capital, supporting R&D and entrepreneurship, access to infrastructure and quality data, legal regulations that will accelerate socio-economic harmony, and international cooperation.” he said.

WE WILL WORK WITH RESOLUTION

“We want to build an artificial intelligence ecosystem that creates value on a global scale with the competitive technologies we have put forward,” said Varank, adding, “We will work decisively to ensure that our country is among the top 20 in international artificial intelligence indices. Achieving this requires having qualified human resources to guide artificial intelligence technologies.” used the expressions.

INNOVATIVE INITIATIVES

Noting that there are many innovative initiatives from Turkey Open Source Platform to 42 software schools, from DENEYAP Technology Workshops to International Leading Researchers Program and TEKNOFEST, Varank said that with these innovative projects, while training more software developers, they also support the development of young people's technological skills. expressed.

R&D AND INNOVATION CULTURE

Noting that another prerequisite for reaching the goals in the field of artificial intelligence is the dissemination of R&D and innovation culture and entrepreneurship in this field, Varank said that they encourage the private sector to invest with both infrastructure and project-based supports.

CALLED

Noting that studies are being carried out to effectively benefit the relevant stakeholders from international funding opportunities, Varank said to researchers and entrepreneurs at this point, “Ufuk Europe and Digital Europe programs offer important financing opportunities for our businesses and researchers in the 2021-2027 period. Please apply here. We are ready to give you all kinds of support and consultancy during the application processes. Again, we provide all kinds of opportunities for the development of technology-based entrepreneurship with the incubation centers and venture capital funds we have established ourselves.” made his call.

10 TURCORN TARGETS

Stating that they are very pleased with the fruits of these supports recently, Varank said, “As you know, Turkey's first unicorn came out of a technopark. As of now, we have 6 unicorns or 6 Turcorns as we say. We will reach our 2023 target of 10 Turcorns. I wholeheartedly believe this. I even believe that some of these Turcorns will be companies working in the field of artificial intelligence.” said.

DATA GENERATION

Noting that one of the main determinants of artificial intelligence is data and data processing infrastructures, Minister Varank said, “How much data do you think is produced annually in the world? 500 million tweets, 294 billion emails, 4 million GB Facebook shares, 65 billion WhatsApp messages sent every day, YouTube720 thousand hours of new content added to . every day creates an incredible amount of information. Too much data is being generated. I can say that; 41 zettabytes of data are produced annually in the world and this continues to increase day by day.” shared his knowledge.

SOCIOECONOMIC TRANSFORMATION

Stating that the correct labeling of the data is as important as the size, volume and diversity of the data, Varank stated that there are important studies carried out both within the body of TÜBİTAK and through international collaborations on these issues. Noting that the subject of artificial intelligence also has a socioeconomic dimension, Varank stated that as the domain of artificial intelligence expands, the pressure of adaptation on individual habits, ways of doing business, professions and even corporate structures triggers socioeconomic transformation.

USE OF AI

Stating that for a useful technology to have a transformative effect, it must be emotionally accepted and socially approved, Minister Varank said, “Currently, the widespread use of artificial intelligence is better than a software that evaluates pre-coded experience and statistics. But if there are inconsistencies and gaps in the system, a good AI will find them very quickly. However, his decision afterward will depend entirely on his embedded algorithm. So what happens if AI decides to become a hacker? All these ethical debates will actually come to the fore more in the coming period, and they will occupy more of our agenda.” said.
