Göcek Bays Will Be Managed With An Effective Conservation Model!

The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has implemented 6 regulations to protect the seagrass meadows, which are defined as the forests of the seas, because the water quality in Göcek Bay does not deteriorate, there is no decrease in submarine biodiversity, it is a source of oxygen and nutrients, the domestic wastes accumulated in boats and yachts are not discharged into the sea and the trees on the coast are not damaged. started a one-stage project. With the implementation of the projects, the sea meadows will not be destroyed or tied to the trees with ropes by randomly anchoring the boats and yachts into the sea in Göcek Bays; coves, seas and the habitats of sea creatures will not be polluted. The Ministry took the first step of the project and realized the tender for the first phase of the "Fethiye Göcek Special Environmental Protection Area Göcek Bay Mapa, Buoy and Environmental Protection Project".

Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change General Directorate of Conservation of Natural Assets; Fethiye, which has a very important position in the Eastern Mediterranean with its thousands of years of historical richness and blue-green nature, is one of the most preferred routes in sea tourism, and is among the most visited by domestic and foreign boats and yachts, has taken action to protect Gocek Bays. .

Mapa, Buoy and Environmental Protection Project was prepared for the protection of Fethiye Göcek Bays

Especially during the pandemic period, the intensity of which has increased; "Fethiye Göcek Special Environmental Protection Area Göcek Bay Mapa, Buoy and Environmental Protection" by the Ministry in order not to deteriorate the water quality due to uncontrolled use, not to decrease the submarine biodiversity, to prevent damage to the seagrass meadows, which are defined as the forests of the seas due to being one of the largest carbon sink areas and being an oxygen-nutrient source. Project” was prepared.

With the project; Damage to seagrass meadows, which are critically endangered according to IUCN criteria and which are the feeding, sheltering and breeding areas of sea creatures by indiscriminate anchoring and anchoring by boats and yachts, destruction of green vegetation by boat ropes tied to trees in bays, pollution of bays by dumping waste by yachts and The destruction of underwater ecology will be prevented.

With the smart buoy system, 7/24 monitoring will be done, random anchoring will not be possible.

In order to prevent boats and yachts from anchoring and anchoring; Considering the boat and yacht capacity, a sufficient number of eyebolts will be placed on the soil of the bay, vaults will be placed on the seabed, buoys will be tied to these vaults and boats will not be allowed to tie ropes to the trees on the shores.

Thanks to the smart buoy system, instantaneous chlorophyll values, oxygen ratio, turbidity and water quality in the sea will be monitored 7/24. The vaults with artificial reef features, to which the buoys will be attached, will also be nests and spawning areas where sea creatures feed and shelter, thanks to their porous structures.

Waste collection boats will increase

Within the scope of the project, the number and capacity of waste collection boats will be increased. The 400-ton main waste ship and 3 accompanying 20-ton waste receiving boats will be operated. With the increase in the capacities of the waste collection boats, the waste collection will be provided faster. In this way, waste collection waiting times at the point where boat owners stay will be shortened even more. Thanks to the tracking system, waste will be prevented from being released into the seas.

The mobile application will meet all needs

A mobile application will be prepared that will provide great convenience to boat owners entering the region and the application can be downloaded free of charge to smart phones.

With the "VIP transfer module" supported by the smart buoy system of the application, which will consist of 6 modules, users will be able to reach the point where the boats are located quickly and comfortably.

With the "Find Buoys module", users will be able to see the empty mooring locations in coordinates on the map in the system, thanks to the CPS devices on all buoys in the region and the QR code system that is defined specifically for each buoy. Users will be able to determine the location of empty buoys while on the shore via GPS and reach any point they choose without wasting time.

With the "Product and clean water demand module", boat owners will be able to make daily demands for water and food by specifying the amount and time. All requests will be forwarded to the center via the GPS system. The needs will be met quickly from the closest points to the boats.

Thanks to the "emergency help button", users will be able to inform the center of fire, accident, breakdown and all events that require emergency intervention in the bays. Reported emergency response points will also be instantly detected via GPS.

With the "notification module", pollution in the bays, wastes discharged by boats, illegal activities and similar situations can be communicated to the relevant authorities and official institutions by contacting the satellite with a single button. Necessary intervention can be done immediately at the reported point. In this way, illegal wastewater discharges in the bays will be prevented.

With the "Take My Waste" module, boats will be able to create a waste purchase demand for cruise-related waste, if not, for wastes that will occur during their stay in the bay. The waste collection boats will transfer all the waste from the boats to the Mavi-Kus waste collection ship, which is designed as a zero-emission floating waste reception facility.

With the implementation of the project, annual monitoring will be carried out to observe the development of seagrass meadows, water quality and the project's contribution to the region.

The button was pressed for the first of 6 stages

The first step has been taken to implement the project that will meet the boat and yacht capacity in the bays, meet many basic needs of the guests, and protect the unique heritage by preventing the destruction of nature.

Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change General Directorate of Conservation of Natural Assets held the tender for the first phase of the 6 phases created within the scope of the project. Within the scope of the 1st Stage tender, which includes İnceburun, Osmanağa, Daily and Boynuzbükü bays, 99 eyebolts and 59 buoy systems will be installed for mooring boats.

The tenders for the remaining 19 stages of the 6 stages consisting of 5 bays will be held during the year, thus protecting the ecology and marine ecosystem of Göcek Bay and making yacht tourism sustainable.

Data will be made public

The Ministry, which periodically performs water quality inspection, submarine biodiversity monitoring and monitoring of the status of seagrass meadows called "Pocidonia oceanica" in Göcek Bays, will share the data of the project before and after the project with the public. Thanks to the shared data, the usefulness of the project will also be revealed.
