Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlu, within the scope of “March 14 Medicine Day”, met with fellow doctors working at Şehzadebaşı Medical Center within the IMM for breakfast. Accompanied by Şengül Altan Arslan, Deputy Secretary General of IMM, and Önder Yüksel Eryiğit, Head of the Health Department, İmamoğlu said, “One of the answers given by every child who strives to be a good student is to become a doctor.” Pointing out that being a doctor is a grueling journey, İmamoğlu said, “It is a professional journey that is preferred by truly talented children and young people are determined on that path. E.g; Personally, I could not show such courage at my age. But I had very close classmates who showed that courage. We were a high school class of 59 people. If I'm not mistaken, we have 13-14 doctors in the classroom. We are always proud of them, as we are proud of you.”
“YOU ARE SERVING IN A HOLY AREA”
Emphasizing that he thanked the doctors who serve in a sacred field such as human health, İmamoğlu said, “Of course, we also wish that the profession of medicine, being a physician, reaches a better condition and that the conditions are much better. We do have some responsibility. I think that whatever sense of responsibility we may be in the future, it should really be cherished and evaluated in this sense.” Stating that there are doctors with expertise in different branches and that he has been going to for 7-8 years, İmamoğlu said:
“Two of them are currently abroad. People can of course serve in any country. Every profession may have conditions to serve in every country, but I think that if we have all kinds of material and moral conditions in place, it will be instrumental in making healthier plans for the future of physicians. I recently met 4 of our medical students by coincidence. They said that they studied in Cerrahpaşa. They also expressed certain concerns. Let me say this: There are economic difficulties in our country. We also see that these economic difficulties affect our citizens at all levels. It affects everyone, not just our doctors. But we also listen and follow our doctors if they have other problems”.

Emphasizing that there are doctors who continue to perform their duties devotedly despite all the difficult conditions in the public and private sector, İmamoğlu said, “In this context, I think that all our doctors expect respect from us, from us, from the managers. Saying, “The physicians of this country are well-educated physicians,” İmamoğlu said, “There is very little in the world where such a well-educated system exists. This is not about today. Maybe it is a vocational training process that has been in existence for 100 years, and there may be more, brought to the present by a tradition. It is necessary to respect this, to look at how we can develop it further. Our faith in the doctors of our country is endless. There is also a prayer that says, 'May Allah not let him go to a doctor, but not leave him without them, and not make up for their deficiency'. Of course, it is a prayer made with good intentions. I hope my doctors; Let them continue to serve with health, peace, security and a process in which they obtain all their rights. "This is my wish on March 14," he said.
After breakfast, İmamoğlu gave flowers to his colleague doctors and wished healing to the patients and their relatives who had an appointment at Şehzadebaşı Medical Center.
