Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu evaluated the "Turkish Electronic Communications Industry Quarterly Market Data Report" prepared by the Information Technologies and Communications Authority. Stating that the growth and development in the sector continued in almost all indicators in 3, Karaismailoğlu said, “Last year, 2021 companies authorized by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority provided electronic communication services to our citizens with 442 authorization certificates. In 792, operator revenues in the electronic communication sector increased by 2021 percent compared to the previous year and reached 20 billion TL. In the last quarter of 92,4, this revenue amounted to 2021 billion TL. These figures show that the industry continues to grow and promises hope for the future.”
MORE THAN 2021 MILLION MOBILE NUMBERS MOVED IN 10,3
Emphasizing that the investments of all operators in the sector increased by approximately 31 percent compared to the previous year, and approached 22 billion TL, Karaismailoğlu gave the following information about the developments in the sector:
“As of the end of 2021, the number of mobile subscribers reached 86,3 million. The prevalence of mobile subscribers approached 102 percent. 80,2 million of mobile subscribers preferred the 2016G subscription, which started service in 4,5. 4.5G service accounted for 93 percent of total subscribers. These subscribers signal that there will be a great potential for 5G and beyond technologies in our country. The number of machine-to-machine communication (M2M) subscribers, which is expected to increase even more with the spread of the internet of things technology, reached 7,4 million and grew by 17 percent on an annual basis. The increase in the number of subscribers who changed operators with the number porting application, which started in 2008 in our country and is one of the best practices worldwide, continues. As of the end of 2021, the total number of mobile numbers ported reached 157,7 million. The number of ported numbers in 2021 exceeded 10,3 million.”
NUMBER OF INTERNET SUBSCRIBERS EXCEEDED 88 MILLION
Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “The steady growth in our country, which has become the most indispensable service of today's internet, continues and this service is reaching more and more people every day.” Expressing that the number of subscribers increased by over 70 million and grew by 88,2 percent when compared to the end of 2020, Karaismailoğlu stated that there was an annual increase of 5,8 percent in the number of subscribers to the "Fiber to the Home" service.
INTERNET USE INCREASED 27.5 PERCENT
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Karaismailoğlu said, “While the number of broadband internet subscribers increased, the usage of subscribers also increased significantly. In 2021, the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers increased by 27,5 percent to 204,5 GByte. While the average monthly data usage of fixed broadband subscribers was 2020 GByte in the last quarter of 177,6, this figure increased by more than 2021 percent to 15 GByte in the last quarter of 204. For mobile subscribers, the data usage, which was 2020 GByte in the fourth quarter of 9,9, increased by 10,3 percent to 11 GByte.
318 BILLION MINUTES TALKED ON THE PHONE
Karaismailoğlu, who also gave information about the voice traffic in mobile and fixed networks, said, “The situation that the phone traffic in our country is mainly based on mobile networks continued in 2021 as well. In 2021, it was determined that the total traffic in our country was 5 billion minutes, with an increase of 318 percent compared to the previous year. It has been determined that approximately 98 percent of this traffic is initiated from mobile networks, and the traffic initiated in fixed networks is realized as 5,2 billion minutes. As of the last quarter of the year, the average monthly usage time in mobile networks was 565 minutes, and 92 minutes in fixed networks.
FIBER INFRASTRUCTURE REACHED 471 THOUSAND MILES
Stating that fiber infrastructure is of critical importance for the development of both broadband internet and existing 4.5G as well as 5G and beyond mobile technologies, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu noted that the pleasing increase in the investments of operators in 2021 is also reflected in fiber investments. Underlining that the fiber infrastructure has increased by 11 percent in a year and reached 471 thousand kilometers, Karaismailoğlu stated that the number of fiber internet subscribers has exceeded 21 million with an increase of approximately 4,8 percent.
5.5 MILLION ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES
Expressing that one of the services that makes life easier is electronic signature, Minister Karaismailoğlu said, “There are currently 6 authorized electronic certificate service providers in our country. By the end of 2021, the number of certificates created by these electronic certificate service providers was 5,5 million, of which approximately 767 million electronic signatures and 6,2 thousand mobile signatures.
