Head of Defense Industry Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir answered Hakan Çelik's questions in the CNN Türk broadcast and explained the developments in the Turkish defense industry. Hakan Çelik asked questions about the air defense missile system HİSAR O+, and İsmail Demir gave new information about the national air defense systems.

President Demir stated that HİSAR O was developed and made O+ and its range was increased to 25 kilometers, “We had no air defense system other than KORKUT 3 years ago. We added SUNGUR to this. After that, we added HİSAR A by making HİSAR A+. We added HİSAR O+. COVER Block 0 is coming. Block 1-2 of SİPER will continue.” made statements.

Demir answered the question asked by Hakan Çelik about the capability achieved in existing air defense systems, that a range of 25 km was reached in HİSAR O+ and 0 km in SİPER Block 75, and that SİPER will progress gradually by adding various elements. He also stated that we will see a certain maturity in SİPER Blok 0 at the end of 2022 or at the beginning of 2023.

HİSAR Air Defense System has received an RF seeker-headed missile

The national air defense system HİSAR O+ was tested with the RF Seeker-headed missile in February 2022, Defense Industry President İsmail Demir announced the development on his social media accounts. The RF seeker-headed missile also draws attention with its different structural features compared to other missiles in the HİSAR family.

The HİSAR O+ Air Defense Missile System was delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces with all its elements at the end of 2021. The system, which previously had the capability of launching an Infrared Imager (IIR) seeker-headed missile, has also achieved the capability of launching an RF (Radio Frequency) Seeker-headed Missile with the final test shot. It is evaluated that the RF seeker-headed missile will have a longer range than the IIR guided missile.

SİPER's missile was tested

The firing of the first version of the SİPER missile was carried out on 6 November 2021 at the Sinop Test Center. The SİPER missile is of great importance in terms of meeting Turkey's layered air defense needs with domestic resources. Developed to protect strategic facilities against enemy attacks within the scope of regional air defense, SIPER will allow air defense at long range and in distributed architecture. The project is carried out in partnership with ASELSAN, ROKETSAN and TÜBİTAK SAGE.

With the works carried out under the coordination of the Presidency of Defense Industries, it is aimed to create a layered air defense for domestic systems. In this context, mass production and delivery of low-altitude Korkut systems were started and still continues. Afterwards, the low altitude Sungur air defense system, which was thrown from the portable vehicle, was put into service. Subsequently, the low-altitude air defense missile system Hisar-A+ was delivered, while the development of the medium-altitude air defense system HİSAR-O+ missile continued, while mass production began.
