AUTHENTIC DESIGNS THAT TELL ANKARA HAVE APPEARED

Industrial design students, professional professionals and lecturers from different universities in Turkey developed projects for a week to come up with new ideas and designs about Ankara at Atatürk Sports Hall.

Gazi University Industrial Product Design Department Head Prof. Dr. Serkan Güneş said, “We present our proposals for nearly 2 projects under approximately 30 titles. I hope these designs come to life over time. We have 3rd and 4th grade students in our project team, and we also have professional professionals. Therefore, our students will become professionals after 1 year. I think they will all be considered. The projects emerged as qualified and were evaluated.”

Metropolitan Municipality Police Department Head Mustafa Koç, Head of Urban Aesthetics Department Selami Aktepe, Head of Culture and Social Affairs Department Ali Bozkurt and Head of Youth and Sports Services Department Mustafa Artunç; From manhole covers to park elements, from seating groups to bus stops, from lighting lamps to animal kennels, they made the following evaluations by watching nearly 30 project presentations:

Selami Aktepe (Head of Urban Aesthetics Department): “I watched the workshop very happily. The enthusiasm and project capacity of the youth impressed me a lot. Ankara's flora and history exist in young people. Young people have projects to build on these. We will cooperate to implement these projects that I am impressed with in our city. This workshop will be very beneficial for Ankara.”

Mustafa Koç (Head of Police Department): “The competitions held during the period of Mr. Mansur Yavaş put the designers in a sweet competition with each other and witnessed the evolution of good results. 13 students from 101 universities have been sweating for a week in this hall. I find it very meaningful to transform urban design elements into urban aesthetic values. I am happy to watch the scientific industrial products of young minds with appreciation. We will evaluate these among ourselves and we will try to spread the Ankara-specific designs of these young people in our city's streets, parks and common areas.”

Ali Bozkurt (Head of Culture and Social Affairs Department): “We are trying to design and bring products to Ankara with our new municipal understanding. Here, the design department trains students on the products we need with the advantage of using technology. We are here for our friends to contribute to us within the framework of today's modern municipal understanding. We aim to decorate the streets and avenues of Ankara with the projects.”

THE HAND OF YOUNG DESIGNERS IS WELCOME TO THE BAŞKENT

Excited by the motivation of their designs, the young people prepared various R&D studies for a week and prepared presentations in different branches.

Expressing that they participated in such a workshop for the first time and brainstormed, the young designers who received a certificate of participation expressed their thoughts with the following words:

Dilhan Camci: “We gained friendships from many universities and shared information with each other. I am in the lighting group. We designed lighting projects for Ankara. We aim to beautify the capital.”

Rose Passenger: “We came to Ankara to develop this city and to reflect cultural identities to Ankara. We collected it to take it out of the ordinary and turn it into an icon. We learned a lot at the workshop, and since we are in the same professional group, we also fed each other. In its ancient history, we used and productized its icons. It is a good professional gain for us.”

Gul Turkmen: “We are here to contribute to Ankara. There are approximately 13 students from 120 provinces here. Our goal is to show Ankara as an icon city. We envisaged that we would make different contributions to the young perspective. The workshop exceeded expectations. We designed a project to make the street lighting reflect Ankara better. I hope we can move Ankara to the point it deserves.”

Mujahid Vasvibas: “The workshop was very beneficial for us. This is our first time participating in a group event. I would like to thank the Metropolitan Municipality because it provided us with the hotel close to us and the gym facilities close to us. Here he provided the opportunity to meet 120 other friends. We were very pleased and together we tried to produce products that would make Ankara beautiful for the benefit of Ankara.”
