The historical Turan Emeksiz ferry, which was sold to Mudanya Municipality in 2008, returned to its home. The ferry brought to Istanbul by the IMM will be restored at the Golden Horn Shipyard.

Turan Emeksiz passenger ferry, built in Glasgow in 1961, served for 46 years. Kadıköy- It carried passengers on the Eminönü-Sirkeci line. The ship, which was retired by Istanbul City Lines in 2008, was sold to Mudanya Municipality in the same period. The ferry, which was operated as a floating hotel in Bursa for many years, was brought back to Istanbul with the initiatives of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).

The last of the ostrich-type ferries, the Turan Emeksiz passenger ferry, was transferred to IMM free of charge by the Mudanya Municipality. On February 16, Unkapanı and Galata bridges were opened to maritime traffic during the passage of the vessel towed from the Güzelyalı Marina.

The ferry, which was brought to the Golden Horn Shipyard dock on the night of February 17, will be restored by IMM.

The historical ferry takes its name from Turan Emeksiz, who lost his life in the protests he participated in at Istanbul University in 1960.
