Rolls-Royce has begun testing its first all-electric car, the Specter, which will be released in the fourth quarter of 2023. He explained that the two-door coupe was just the beginning and that by the end of the decade the entire range was on the electrified path. The transition to electrical energy brought about great changes. The iconic Spirit of Ecstasy statuette, which plays an important role in the history of the brand, has been redesigned.

Electrification reveals the luxury automaker's plan to significantly shape the electric future of the industry in the years to come. The most famous and desirable automotive mascot in the world has been brought close to drawings made in the early years of the 20th century by its original creator, illustrator and sculptor Charles Sykes. The new design was created alongside digitally realistic facial features through a passionate computer modeler from the House of Rolls-Royce. Spirit of Ecstasy was first registered as the intellectual property of Rolls-Royce on February 6, 1911. 111 years from now, the brand's most aerodynamic all-electric car will take its place above the grille of Specter.

The renewed Spirit of Ecstasy has a height of 100.01 mm compared to the 82.73 mm height of its predecessor. Previously, she stood with her feet together, legs straight and bent towards her waist. Now, she is a true goddess of speed, ready for the wind, one leg forward, body down, eyes eagerly focused ahead. These changes have both practical and stylistic benefits. The product of 830 hours of combined design modeling and wind tunnel testing, it helps to increase the outstanding aerodynamic properties of the Specter. The redesign contributes to a drag coefficient (cd) of only 0,26 in early prototypes. That makes it the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royce ever built. This figure is expected to improve during the product's extensive testing protocols in 2022.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars; “111 years ago today, Spirit of Ecstasy became an official part of Rolls-Royce. It began to represent a spiritual aspect for our brand. Beyond being a symbol, the embodiment of our brand has been a constant source of inspiration and pride for our brand and its customers. Like our brand, it has always kept up with the times, staying true to its nature and character. More modern and elegant than ever in its new form, it's the most aerodynamic emblem ever. It will grace the bow of our bold electric future,” he said.

artistic expressions of the icon

At the same time, the Rolls-Royce Art Program Muse announced the jury for the Spirit of Ecstasy Challenge. This inaugural initiative invites the world's bright and bold young creators to re-imagine the Spirit of Ecstasy icon. These young artists will be encouraged to create high-concept pieces that surprise, delight and inspire. The global expert jury of the prestigious biennial event will select a medium for each print and emerging designers where they can create an artistic interpretation of the Spirit of Ecstasy.
