The winners of the BigSEE Awards 2022, which are given in many branches of design in Southeast European countries, have been announced. The Pool Izmir Project, implemented by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in Bornova, was awarded an award in the field of architecture.

The Pool Izmir Project, which was put into service in 2021 by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in the Bornova Aşık Veysel Recreation Area, was deemed worthy of an award. The winners of the South East Europe (BigSEE) Awards 2022, which are given in different scales and categories in many branches of design in Southeast European countries, have been announced. In the competition, in which hundreds of projects from 19 countries participated, the design of the semi-olympic swimming pool, which Izmir Metropolitan Municipality brought to the city with an investment of 16 million liras to encourage and develop swimming sports, won an award in the field of architecture.

An award ceremony will be held in Slovenia in May for the award-winning projects. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Bayraklı The Beach Pedestrian Bridge was also awarded in the public space category by the BigSEE platform in 2021.

Pool Izmir was built as a disabled-friendly and environmentally friendly structure. Located just north of the Ice Sports Hall, the facility, built on a 3 square meter indoor area, has a special view at night. Recycled glass was used on the facade of the building. Solar panels on the roof provide some of the electricity needs of the facility.

The Slovenian-based BigSEE Awards are given every year within the framework of the Great Architecture Festival. The awards are held to recognize achievements in architecture and design in the 19-country Southeast European region. The awards are given in the categories of architecture, interior design, product design, fashion design, tourism design and wood design.
