IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluhosted the newly appointed US Ambassador to Ankara, Jeffry Lane Flake, in his office in Saraçhane. Flake received detailed information about the 'Pending Invoice' application, which won the grand prize in the 2021 Bloomberg Global Mayors Competition, from İmamoğlu, to whom he paid a courtesy visit. During the meeting, İmamoğlu and Flake exchanged ideas on possible cooperation areas and supporting local initiatives.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğluhosted the newly appointed US Ambassador to Ankara Jeffry Lane Flake and his wife Cheryl Flake in their office in Saraçhane. US Istanbul Consul General Daria L. Darnell also attended the meeting. Expressing his pleasure to host Ambassador Flake and his wife, who paid him a courtesy visit, İmamoğlu said, “Istanbul is one of the most important cities in the world and one of the cities that should have the strongest ties to the world. Because I think this century will be the century of cities. With this feeling, of course, I wish that the good relations we have had with both the Embassy of the United States of America and the Consul General since the day I took office will be much better in your new term of office.”

Sharing the knowledge that he had been examining the historical Bozdoğan Aqueduct, whose restoration works will be completed in about 6 months, with Ambassador Flake before the visit, İmamoğlu said, “As I saw the foundation of an aqueduct dating from the 1st century, in an aqueduct right next to us; I welcome you here by feeling the aqueducts of both the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, which have survived until today. Therefore, I know that we are keeping a great legacy of the world alive in Istanbul. With this feeling, I wish Istanbul to be an important center of good relations in the process of the United States of America, which I know is very valuable to always have good relations with Turkey.”

Ambassador Flake also expressed his happiness to be in a beautiful city like Istanbul. Emphasizing that the “Pending Invoice” project, implemented by IMM under corporate supervision as a gesture of kindness, won the 2021 “Bloomberg Global Mayors Competition”, Flake received information about its content. Emphasizing that Istanbul is a crowded city and wondering about its population, Flake stated that they represent 2 million as 7 senators in Arizona. İmamoğlu and the Ambassador also mentioned that growing up in large families gives people more understanding and tolerance in terms of management.
