IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluvisited the factory in Sakarya, where 100 new buses that will be included in Istanbul's metrobus fleet are produced. Stating that they will take delivery of 1 buses within a week and add them to the fleet, İmamoğlu shared the information that "20 vehicles in total will be completed in April and May". Reminding that they have been waiting for Presidential approval for a long time for the renewal of the rest of the 100 bus fleet consisting of very old vehicles, İmamoğlu said, “We have buses that exceed 670 million kilometers in our metrobus fleet. We look forward to it. In these difficult days, we are proud of continuing to invest in difficult times, both on behalf of our city and our country. I hope; We will continue to give better news to the people of Istanbul in better news.”

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlu, together with IETT General Manager Alper Bilgili, visited the factory in Sakarya Arifiye, where the vehicles that will join the metrobus fleet with the use of equity are produced. İmamoğlu, who toured the factory and production lines under the guidance of Otokar General Manager Serdar Görgüç, conveyed his wishes of success to the employees. İmamoğlu gave his evaluation speech in the new bus that will join Istanbul's metrobus fleet. Saying, “Today, we started the day and the week in Sakarya, Arifiye,” İmamoğlu said, “We are at the Otokar factory, the valuable industrial establishment of our country. With the metrobus-bus purchase tender we made last year, Otokar company manufactures 100 of our vehicles. Here, we made a visit to our vehicles under construction. Because -not much- our first 20 vehicles will arrive in Istanbul in a week. A total of 100 vehicles will be completed in April and May.”

“ISTANBUL'S BUS FLEET IS AGED”

Pointing out that Istanbul's bus fleet is getting older, İmamoğlu said, “The average is very high. Our institution has experienced a lack of investment in this regard for many years. As soon as we arrived, we took steps. Our first step; It was a larger capacity purchase. However, our loan was not approved. Afterwards, we went to the procurement tender by making installments with our own means. That's how we got our 160 vehicles. 100 of our vehicles are in this company, 60 of our vehicles are in another company. Their production continues. All of them will be with us again in these months.” Stating that the vehicle he is in is one of the vehicles that will be included in the fleet, İmamoğlu said:

“WE WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE MORE BEAUTIFUL GOODS TO ISTANBUL”

“The issue of renewing the bus fleet is important in Istanbul. In this sense, we actually want to continue purchasing if we receive the approval of the Investment Monitoring Unit, which is still waiting for the approval of the Presidency. This is a service to Istanbul. Renewed vehicles mean safer service. It means safer travel. When even these 160 vehicles join the BRT fleet, our citizens will see that they will start to receive a more comfortable, better quality and more perfect service. Because we have buses that exceed 2 million kilometers in our metrobus fleet. We look forward to it. Our investments continue. In these difficult days, we are proud of continuing to invest in difficult times, both on behalf of our city and our country. I hope; We will continue to give better news to Istanbulites with better news.”

THE TENDER WAS DONE ON 5 AUGUST 2021

The average age of 670 vehicles working on the metrobus line of IETT, one of the affiliates of IMM, increased to 10. When the Presidency did not approve the 300 million Euro foreign loan for months to buy 90 vehicles to renew the metrobuses, which caused intense complaints, IETT took action to buy buses with its own resources. As a result of the tender held on August 5, 2021 and broadcast live, the offer of Otokar company for 21 buses with a length of 100 meters and the offers of Akia company for 25 buses with a length of 60 meters were approved. The 21-meter-long Otokar buses to be purchased will have a capacity of 200 passengers. The vehicles currently used are 18,5 meters and 185 passengers can travel at the same time. 25 Akia buses with a length of 60 meters have a capacity of 280 passengers. Currently used buses are 26 meters but can carry 225 passengers. Buses, 15 percent of which are paid in advance and the remainder are purchased with a maturity of 72 months, will be delivered from the first months of 2022.

During his visit to the factory, İmamoğlu was accompanied by CHP İBB Group Deputy Chairman Doğan Subaşı and Advisor to the President in charge of subsidiaries, Ertan Yıldız.
