'Artistic' Transformation in Bursa Zindankapı!

The Zindankapısı of the 2300-year-old city walls of Bursa, which was converted into a contemporary art gallery after the restoration by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, hosted the 'cycle' exhibition by Deniz Sağdıç, who transforms the objects and objects that individuals use in daily life, that they consume and leave aside, into works of art.

The 2300-year-old Zindankapı, which was restored in its original state after being restored by the Metropolitan Municipality, has gained an important place in the culture and art life of Bursa in a short time as a contemporary art gallery. The exhibition of Deniz Sağdıç, who brought together the concept of 'zero waste' with art, by transforming objects into something completely different from what they are, in the workshop she established in Istanbul after graduating from the Painting Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts, brought art lovers of Bursa together in the dungeon. Sağdıç's exhibition 'Cycle', prepared from jeans fabrics abandoned by their owners after being used, was opened to visitors with a ceremony held in Zindankapı. Bursa Deputy Muhammet Müfit Aydın and Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Murat Demir also attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition, while Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu and Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş, who were in Bursa for investment review programs, also visited the exhibition after the opening.

sustainable art

Deniz Sağdıç, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, stated that he is trying to make sustainable art and that he is very happy to be in Bursa. Reminding that the works he made using denim material from his exhibition in Zindankapı are on display, Sağdıç said, “We always wear these trousers, which are consumption objects, a few times, then we put them aside in our closet and throw them away after keeping them for years. In particular, I set out to see if I could construct an idea to transform the act of throwing into the act of recreating. We already have a zero waste claim. In this exhibition, I created a work of art with different techniques and different methods, from legs and belts to any piece you can think of. I hope it will be an enjoyable journey," he said.

Bursa Deputy Muhammet Müfit Aydın also congratulated the Metropolitan Municipality, who first raised Zindankapı and brought the art gallery to the city. Stating that many elements that are described as waste in society are actually raw materials at the same time, Aydın emphasized that in this exhibition, they see how waste turns into works of art in the best way.

Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan Municipality Murat Demir emphasized that although Zindankapı has been put into service as an art gallery for a short time, it has gained an important place in the culture and art life of Bursa.

The exhibition, which was opened to visitors after the speeches, received full marks from art lovers, while Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu, who was in Bursa for investment review, visited the exhibition in Zindankapı despite his busy schedule. Minister Karaismailoğlu, who came to the Zindankapı Contemporary Art Gallery together with the Metropolitan Mayor Alinur Aktaş, examined the works one by one and got information about the works from the artist Deniz Sağdıç. First of all, Minister Karaismailoğlu congratulated President Aktaş for bringing the historical building back to its feet and congratulated Sağdıç for the works he produced.
