Ankara Metropolitan Municipality was selected as the pilot metropolitan municipality in the field of 'public health' due to its projects prioritizing public health within the scope of the United Nations Local Government Reform and the "Development and Realization of Local Service Delivery Standards" activity. In the meetings hosted by ABB, between 21-23 February 2022, representatives of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) will attend, and studies to be carried out in the field of public health will be discussed.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) continues to undertake projects that prioritize public health.

In line with the United Nations (UN) Local Government Reform, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality was selected as the pilot metropolitan municipality in the field of "public health" within the scope of the activity "Developing and Implementing Local Service Delivery Standards for Simplification of the Processes Regarding Service Delivery".

ABB TAKES EXAMPLE PROJECTS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH

Realizing exemplary projects for public health as well as human health, ABB achieved successful results with these efforts.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which was selected for the UN "LAR III Project" for its work on public health, also pioneered other municipalities.

In this context, to the Local Administration Reform meeting held at the Metropolitan Municipality Council Meeting Hall; Head of Health Affairs Department Seyfettin Aslan, UN Development Program Local Government Reform Stage 3 Project Manager Neslihan Yumukoğlu, LAR III Project experts Dr. Volkan Recai Cetin and Prof. Dr. Nuray Yazıhan, Environmental Urban Planning Expert of the Ministry of Environmental Urbanization and Climate Change İbrahim Akgül, Lawyer of the Ministry of Environment Urbanization and Climate Change Nurten Işık and representatives of the Metropolitan Municipality attended.

PURPOSE: ACCOUNTABLE AND PARTICIPATING LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The Local Government Reform Phase III Project, funded by the European Union (EU) and carried out by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and co-beneficiaries of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, continues to support the implementation of the local government reform process and to support Turkey. It also aims to provide effective, inclusive, accountable and participatory local government in accordance with international standards.

In the "Workshop on the Development of Service Delivery Standards" held with the participation of 8 Metropolitan Municipalities in Turkey, the duties and responsibilities of the Metropolitan Municipalities; Public Health, Public Health in Public Transport, Preventive and Protective Services, Home Elderly Care Services and Agricultural Support Services.

''WE HAVE BEEN SELECTED AS A PILOT REGION IN PUBLIC HEALTH''

Head of Health Affairs Department Seyfettin Aslan, who opened the meeting to be hosted by ABB until February 23, 2022, in which the issue of public health will be discussed, gave the following information about the project:

“In line with the recommendations of the United Nations Development Program LAR III project team, our Municipality has been selected as one of the pilot metropolitan municipalities in the field of public health, within the scope of the development and implementation of local service delivery standards, as a result of the approval of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. With today's meeting, we have been working on these issues and I think we will be successful as Ankara Metropolitan Municipality in developing standards in this regard.''

"WE ARE TARGETING OUR PROJECT TO SUCCESS"

United Nations Development Program LAR III Project Manager Neslihan Yumukoğlu also made the following assessments:

“The aim of our project is; Identifying the deficiencies that emerged after the implementation of the Metropolitan Municipality Law and strengthening the capacities of our local and central administrations in this regard, thus ensuring a more transparent, accountable and participatory local government throughout the country. Since October, we have been particularly focused on our pilot studies. We carry out our work in various metropolitan, provincial and district municipalities and special provincial administration units in Turkey. Our training programs targeting all our municipalities and local governments have been carried out so far. Our reports examining the practices of the European Union were created. Technical study visits were held with the participation of our municipal administrators and central administration representatives, and one more of these will take place now. Our project is being launched as a needed project for the country. With this project, we aim to achieve success with the intense support and interest of our municipalities.”

United Nations Development Program LAR III Project Specialist Dr. Volkan Recai Çetin said, “We have determined the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality as a pilot province within the scope of the development and improvement of public health standards. Approximately 5 reports were prepared throughout the project and many training modules were created. We aim to complete our project by the end of July 2022,'' he said.
