Pointing out that urticaria, also known as hives among the people, is a common symptom of viral infections for both children and adults, Allergy Specialist and President of Allergy, Asthma Society Prof. Dr. Ahmet Akçay, stating that infections can trigger urticaria, said that those with hives rash should have a Covid test.

prof. Dr. Ahmet Akcay; He said that urticaria, also known as urticaria among the people, is a group of pale red bumps anywhere on the skin, similar to angioedema, but the swelling is under the skin rather than on the surface, and urticaria is often seen together with angioedema. Noting that acute urticaria is a common symptom of viral infections for both children and adults, he stated that viral infections mostly cause urticaria in children.

'This should be taken into account in the early diagnosis of children with Covid-19!'

Prof. Stating that more than 50 percent of urticaria rashes occur before or simultaneously with the classic symptoms of Covid-19, these rashes help the diagnosis of the disease. Dr. Ahmet Akçay said: 'The presence of urticaria rashes, especially in patients who have recently come into contact with patients with COVID-19, the diagnosis of the disease should definitely be considered. For this reason, it is very important to test for Covid -19 infection in every patient with urticaria. Dermatologists and clinicians should take this into account in the early diagnosis of children with COVID-19. Because these children can transmit the infection to parents and grandparents who may be at high risk for infection.'

'Those with covid-19 infection with urticaria pass milder'

prof. Dr. Ahmet Akcay; A low eosinophil count may indicate a more severe infection. Normalization of eosinophil counts has been observed to provide clinical improvement. In one study, it was reported that COVID-19 patients with urticaria had a better recovery and this was due to high blood eosinophil levels. It has been observed that urticaria developed in patients with COVID-19 infection recovered in less than a week. In conclusion, it has been reported that urticaria rash may be caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection. It will be very useful to test for Covid-19 infection in every child and adult with urticaria rashes. Testing for Covid-19 infection will prevent the spread of the disease, especially in those who have a fever with urticaria and have a history of contact with someone with Covid-19 infection.
