The operator of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced that Shenhai-1, the first deep-sea gas field operated entirely by a Chinese company, produces more than 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
The deep-sea well, located 150 kilometers from the island of Hainan in the south of China, is an important clean energy source for the Hainan Free Trade Port and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area as the most difficult deep-sea well to operate. Since its commissioning on June 25, 2021, Shenhai-1's daily output has grown from 400 thousand cubic meters to 10 million cubic meters.
Yuan Yuan, general manager of the Shenhai-1 deep-sea gas field, stated that the cumulative production of over 1 billion cubic meters proves the capacity and reliability of the systems China has developed based on its own strength for the exploration, production and operation of deep-sea gas and oil reserves.
Shenhai-100, which has the world's first 1-ton semi-submersible oil production and storage platform, will be able to supply 3 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Guangdong province, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and Hainan province in the south of China, after starting production. - Macau will be able to meet a quarter of the total gas demand of the Greater Bay Area.
