Three-Day Olympic Torch Run Starts in Beijing

The Beijing leg of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Torch Run started with a ceremony today. Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng also attended the ceremony held in the Olympic Forest Park this morning. Han Zheng, who is also the leader of the 24th Winter Olympics Working Group, passed the Beijing Winter Olympics torch to Luo Zhihuan, China's first world champion in speed skating, after lighting the torch.

The torch was later taken over by Wang Meng, world champion in short track speed skating at the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics and 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, at the second delivery point today and continued running. Everyone carrying the torch runs an average of 52 meters for one minute. In the first leg of the run, over 370 people will cover a total of 6,5 kilometers in 19,5 hours.

Over 200 people will carry the torch in the Torch Run, which will last for three days in the Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou competition regions. The Olympic Torch will be brought to the main torch tower at the China National Stadium on February 4.
