Public Bread Project in İzmir Will Grow Twice! Signatures Taken

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer signed a protocol with the İzmir Chamber of Bakers and Craftsmen in order to both deliver cheap and healthy bread to İzmir residents and to support bakers. Minister Tunç SoyerHe said, “This cooperation is an exemplary work not only for İzmir but for the whole of Turkey”.

Mayor of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Tunç Soyer signed a protocol with the Izmir Chamber of Bakers and Craftsmen in order to both deliver cheap and healthy bread to more Izmir residents and support tradesmen who are experiencing financial difficulties against the worsening living conditions. With the protocol that will activate the idle capacities of the bakeries in the city, 120-130 thousand breads are produced per day at the Halk Ekmek factory, and this figure is aimed to double with the inclusion of the bakeries with which the agreement has been made in the project.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer“Our cooperation with the Bakers' Chamber will be an exemplary work not only for İzmir but for the whole of Turkey. I wish all the best to Izmir," he said.

Birol Yılmaz, President of Bakers Federation, stating that İzmir Metropolitan Municipality has carried out a work to be respected, said, “You are the architect of this business. Your support is very important to us. You supported the bakers, you made us smile”. Ege Ata Bread and Bakery Products Inc. Soner Çelik, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said, “It was a work that would be beneficial for both the public and the tradesmen.”

Sold in 63 kiosks

2 grams of white bread produced at the Halk Ekmek factory and sold for 230 liras and wholemeal bread of the same weight are sold for 2,5 liras in the market.

Çiğli, the bread produced at the Halk Ekmek factory, Karşıyaka, Bayraklı, Bornova, Konak, Buca, Karabağlar, Gaziemir districts are delivered to the people of Izmir with 63 kiosks.
