The 108th anniversary of the Nostalgic Tram, one of the symbols of Istanbul, was celebrated with a ceremony held in Tünel Square.

The ceremony held for the 108th anniversary of the Nostalgic Tram started with a music concert. Then a moment of silence and the National Anthem were sung. Deputy General Manager Murat Altıkardeşler made a speech at the ceremony attended by IETT managers and employees. In his speech, Altıkardeşler talked about sections from the history of IETT from horse-drawn trams to the present; “It has been 11 years since February 1914, 108, when the first electric tram started working,” he began.

Altınkardeşler said, "The 150-year-old IETT was contributing to the writing of the country's history while fulfilling the duties required by the period, that is, writing its own history."

Altınkardeşler said that the Nostalgic Tram, which serves enthusiasts, hasty people, tourists, especially those who want to take photos between Tünel Square and Taksim Square, started its voyages again in 1991 and said, “This history that I briefly mentioned is also the history of Istanbul. Our history. On the other hand, Istanbul has started to make history with its Metro lines. From horse-drawn trams to electrics, from trolleybuses to underground metros, this is the growth and maturation process of Istanbul. As IETT, we are faced with the task of adapting to this maturation process and adapting to new modes of transportation. After the ceremony, the exhibition consisting of newspaper clippings and photographs of the period was visited at the Taksim and Karaköy entrances of Tünel.
