IMM Requests an Emergency Stop for the Building Curtaining Sulaymaniyah

IMM applied to the Regional Conservation Board to stop the practices in the dormitory building rising in front of the Süleymaniye Mosque. The project, which was communicated on April 1, 2019, right after the local elections, requested the reconsideration of the project, which did not have the approval of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality required by the legislation on the 'Renewal Areas Island Preliminary Projects' and which obscured the silhouette of the World Heritage Site Süleymaniye.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) requested an emergency stop for the structure affecting the appearance of the Süleymaniye Mosque. IMM, who applied to the Conservation Regional Board, stated that the building project is against the current zoning plan and regulation.

PRECAUTIONARY ALERT WAS MADE

In the objection made by the IMM Department of Cultural Heritage, the project, which was determined to have not even been left to the public, was requested to be re-evaluated. A 'precedent' warning was made regarding the building, where the license and construction process was started before the approval processes were completed. In the renewal area of Süleymaniye; It was pointed out that the application to be made on an island would set a precedent for the entire renewal area. It was underlined that while a more meticulous study should be carried out, a project with an extremely large mass and a negative impact on the silhouette was prepared.

HIGHER THAN THE DESTROYED BUILDING

In the application of the IMM Cultural Heritage Department, it was reminded that the building rising in front of Süleymaniye was prepared in violation of the current zoning plan and regulation. It was stated that it was built higher than the destroyed structure. It was emphasized that while the roof top level of the demolished building was 52,89 meters, the roof top level of the building was 53,19 meters. It was stated that a level was determined to disrupt the silhouette effect around Sulaymaniyah, taking the old building with the illegal floor as an example, and it was pointed out that contrary to the claim, it was a higher project than the demolished building.

IBB Requests Emergency Stop for Building Blocking Suleymaniye

PERMITTED WITHOUT IMM APPROVAL

The project of the dormitory building belonging to the İlim Yayma Vakfı was submitted to the Conservation Board on April 1, 2019, right after the local elections. The 'Renovation Areas Island Preliminary Projects' regarding the building, which was prepared in a hurry between the two elections and submitted to the board, did not receive the approval of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Simultaneously with the 'Island Preliminary Implementation Projects' without approval, the project was approved by the 'Istanbul No. 2019 Renewal Areas Conservation Regional Board' in July 1. IMM, with the application it made yesterday to the 'Istanbul No. 4 Conservation Regional Board', demanded that the practices be stopped quickly.

THE PROJECT SHOULD BE AGAINST

IMM made its objection to the 'Istanbul No. 1 Conservation Regional Board' due to the closure of the 'Istanbul No. 4 Renewal Areas Conservation Regional Board', which approved the project. He expressed his belief that the current project, which Istanbul No. 4 Conservation Regional Board had not examined before, would be handled with sensitivity again. A call was made to implement a project worthy of Sulaymaniyah.

ILLEGAL BUILDINGS THAT DISCONTINUE THE SILHOUETTE WILL BE DESTROYED

IMM continues its meticulous work to ensure that the silhouette of the World Heritage Site of Sulaymaniyah is not affected and that it is passed on to future generations. In this context, as a result of the ongoing studies, IMM determined the practices that were formed in the previous years; illegal floor, terrace etc. It will also start the necessary demolition processes regarding the structures in the coming days.
