Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu met with his counterpart Nikolay Sabev in Bulgaria. After the bilateral meeting, a joint statement was signed. Karaismailoğlu, who made a statement at the Kapıkule Border Gate after his contacts, said that the priorities of the problems experienced at the highway gates that pass through Bulgaria are at the top of the issues. Karaismailoğlu stated that there was an excessive density at the Hamzabeyli and Kapıkule Border Gates, and drew attention to the fact that it was agreed to increase the capacities and improve the conditions here.

THERE ARE WORKS TO BUILD ADDITIONAL PASSING DOORS

Explaining that up to 30 percent increases will be made in the transition capacities at the gates in the short term, Karaismailoğlu said, “In addition, there are important studies on the construction of additional gates on a permanent basis. Hopefully, we agreed with them that these permanent doors will be built and important developments will be experienced within 6 months. Good relations with Bulgaria will continue, whether in road transit or bilateral transit, and we will work together to minimize the problems experienced by our transporters here. We agreed on this," he said.

THERE ARE IMPORTANT WORKS ON THE ÇERKEZKÖY-KAPIKULE SPEED TRAIN LINE

Expressing that these logistics movements will increasingly continue as capacity, export figures, production and consumption increase, Karaismailoğlu continued as follows:

“So it will be much higher than today's numbers. That's why we need to increase the capacity on the highway, and we also need to activate alternative routes to the highway and increase the capacities there. We also agreed that we should use the railway and seaway actively. We will also carry out very important works in railway transportation, which has a very low capacity at present. Çerkezköy-There are also important works on the Kapikule High Speed Train line. In the next 2 years Çerkezköy-We will put the Kapikule part into operation. Çerkezköy- Our tender and construction works continue feverishly between Istanbul. This is a very important corridor for the development of logistics. It is also at the heart of the Iron Silk Road from China to London. This place will assume a very important function in the long run in the coming years. Because we have a target of taking 710 percent of the 30 billion dollars trade volume in the Northern Corridor to the Middle Corridor. Here, we have made our plans, our work continues. Again in Bulgaria, they told us that we agree on this issue and that they attach the same importance to us, emphatically.”

WE NEED TO OPEN THE VARNA RO-RO LINE

Reminding that Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Turkey decided to meet in Istanbul in March, especially in rail transport, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu stated that they also organized this meeting. Karaismailoğlu stated that studies will be carried out to increase this capacity and modernization in the railway, and said, “We have consulted with the Bulgarian side of the importance of Karasu-Varna or Istanbul-Varna RO-RO transports. We are glad to see that they are also aware of the importance of this issue. We need to open the Varna RO-RO line very quickly. Our colleagues immediately started their work on that issue as well,” he said.

ÇANAKKALE BRIDGE WILL BE THE IMPORTANT ROUTE OF LOGISTICS CORRODS

Noting that he told his colleague that the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge will be opened on February 26, Karaismailoğlu said, “The Çanakkale Bridge will also be an important route of these logistics corridors. Because the Çanakkale Bridge will be the corridor of western Turkey, the Aegean and Marmara regions opening to Europe. It will also assume a very important function in these logistics movements. We will be in Çanakkale this Saturday and on the opening day next week. This will guide the logistics movements of the world. 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is one of the biggest technological works in the world. It is also one of the very important transportation projects that we brought to our country under the leadership of our President. It is one of the most important projects that the whole world follows with envy. Hopefully, we will put it at the service of the whole world next week," he said.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO IMPROVE LOGISTICS CORRODS TO INCREASE FOREIGN TRADE VOLUME

Underlining that the relations with Bulgaria are at a very good level, Minister of Transport Karaismailoğlu said, “We observed this once again as a result of our meetings today. Our consultations will continue. We prepared a joint statement and listed our objectives. We will now follow up on these at the ministerial level. Again, our good cooperation with all our neighboring countries and the countries in these logistics corridors on our route will increasingly continue. Because in order to increase our trade volume of 225 billion dollars to 500 billion dollars, it is very important both to improve these logistics corridors and to increase their capacities. That's why we will work hard with our whole team to do our part," he concluded.
