459 Vehicles Collected at Turkey's First Scrap Vehicle Center!

At the Scrap Vehicle Center established by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in January 2020 in Menemen, 459 scrap vehicles that have been abandoned, which have caused safety problems as well as environmental pollution, have been collected in various parts of the city so far. The Scrap Vehicle Center is the first municipal scrap car park in Turkey.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality sets an example for Turkey with the Scrap Vehicle Center it established two years ago for vehicles that prevent traffic flow throughout the city, create security problems especially around schools, and cause visual and environmental pollution. To date, 459 scrap vehicles have been collected and towed to the center. The 880-vehicle car park in Kasımpaşa Mahallesi of the Menemen district is the first municipal scrap car park in Turkey.

At the end of 6 months, it is brought into the economy

Pursuant to Article 122 of the Highway Traffic Regulation, the vehicles that are in the nature of scrap are determined on-site by the district municipalities, and the Notaries Union of Turkey determines the ownership information of these vehicles. After that, an announcement is made to the owners to remove the vehicles within seven days. Vehicles that are not removed within the specified time are taken to the Scrap Vehicle Center of 13 square meters in Menemen by the Police Department teams.

Vehicles are kept in this center for 6 months. During this period, vehicle owners can apply to the İzmir Police Department and receive their vehicles with a document they will receive from the Traffic Inspection Branch Directorate. Vehicles that are not withdrawn at the end of 6 months are sent to the Machinery and Chemistry Industry with the cooperation of the Police Department and the Ministry of Finance, and they are brought into the economy. 459 of the 52 vehicles pulled by the teams in about two years were taken back by the vehicle owners.
