Connecting to the virtual universe with Metaverse has come very close. The 'deep fiction' that emerged with artificial intelligence was classified as a 'threat' by the USA. The 'firsts' we experienced in 2021 were presented by Suat Örslü, Deputy General Manager of Ereteam, a software consultancy company working in the field of artificial intelligence technologies, and Dr. Instructor Member Şebnem Özdemir announced.

While the deep fiction technology called 'deep fake' changed the reality we know, an artificial intelligence was included in the legal system for the first time. Technologies that will be the precursors for the creation of the virtual universe were introduced.

“MATRIX TURNING INTO REALITY”
Suat Örslü, Deputy General Manager of data analysis firm Ereteam, explained the developments in 2021: “In 2021, we started to see new developments that we think are in film scripts in real life. We started to see and use vehicles that could drive, follow lanes and park on their own, and virtual assistants on mobile devices. However, in 2021, we first experienced the results of studies on subjects such as connecting to the virtual universe as in the movie The Matrix, and the use of artificial intelligence in justice mechanisms like in the movie Minority Report.
“2021 WAS THE YEAR OF VALUE, REALITY AND SUSTAINABILITY”
Evaluating 2021, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Researcher Dr. Instructor Member Şebnem Özdemir said, “The year 2021 has been the year of value, truth and sustainability around the world. The concept of value has undergone one of the most rapid changes in human history. In 2018, the portrait of Endmond Belamy found buyers for close to 500 thousand dollars, while the biggest criticism of the painting was that it was an artificial intelligence print. While the most critical view of machines producing art was the loss of the element of uniqueness, with the rise of the NFT concept in 2021, the output produced by the machine was also given an element of uniqueness. However, this was not the only change in the value element. The perception that it does not need to have a physical equivalent to be valuable was one of the types of thought that marked 2021. Therefore, the individual, benefiting from the image processing power of artificial intelligence, produced digital world artifacts that have no physical counterparts from digital mud.”
“WE MET THE DEEPFAKE THREAT”
Referring to the concept of 'deepfake', which was one of the most talked about last year, Özdemir said, “The truth is variable, truth is fixed philosophy, thanks to metaverse and deep fiction, the form of reality has changed and its voice has become muted. Especially videos and recordings produced with deep editing have become the most important means of manipulating individuals and societies. Deep fiction, which is one of the sub-studies of artificial intelligence, has been labeled as a new generation threat in the European Council and the American Senate. Regimes in various countries have been shaken by small or medium-sized events due to the outputs produced by deep fiction. Metaverse, while opening new doors and responsibilities, created an alternative reality fiction for anyone who is bored with the reality of the physical world or finds it narrow in their own way. However, beyond a metaverse universe, it will mark 2022 as a live data warehouse. Thanks to the meta-universe, every structure that wants to extract an individual's digital spouse and truly profile him will be able to compile and process this data more effortlessly than the physical world, and artificial intelligence will have a new learning experience. Although sustainability was discussed as a dominant concept after the middle of the year, the aspects of the concept combined with artificial intelligence were less talked about. In particular, Ereteam has demonstrated with scientific studies how the lack of data hinders artificial intelligence in the protection of biodiversity, one of the sub-fields of sustainability.

Stating that they are working to develop artificial intelligence technologies in our country, Örslü said, “As Ereteam, it has been a year in which we have increased our competencies and capabilities in these areas. It was a year in which we started to integrate machine learning algorithms into our products in our R&D center, while partnering with a worldwide powerful manufacturer such as DataRobot in machine learning issues. Within the scope of University-Industry cooperation, we continued our active work with our teacher Şebnem Özdemir from İstinye University. We plan to see the results in 2022," he said.
