Toyota continues to support the use of hydrogen in different fields by supporting the FCH2021Rail project, which started in January 2 and combines normal line and emission-free dual-mode train lines.

For the new phase of the FCH2Rail project, Toyota produced, tested and supplied 6 fuel cell modules with second-generation technology that have more power and greater density, despite more compact dimensions. The modules were produced in a flat module layout to be most efficiently integrated into the ceiling of the trains.

Testing will begin with all modules, with the remaining three modules added to the test trains in February, while full system testing of the three modules supplied begins.

Together with Toyota's fuel cell modules, project workers will be able to develop a fuel cell hybrid power unit for dual-mode driving. This system combines a fuel cell hybrid power package that operates independently with electrical power from the power lines.

The FCH2Rail consortium will begin the first functional tests in Spain and Portugal after the integration is complete. Energy management will be tested in the project and at the same time, it will be experienced whether it is a suitable solution for zero-emission trains.
