Tourist buses will now operate within the IMM. With the decision of 'Ukome', touristic transportation service authority was given to IMM. As of 17.01.2022, domestic and foreign tourists will receive service from the buses of Istanbul Transportation AŞ at world standards.
The double-decker buses, which provide both transportation and guiding services to tourists in the historical regions of Istanbul, will now be under the body of IMM.
As of January 17, 2022, buses belonging to 'Istanbul Transportation AŞ' started to serve. With the tender of IETT in 2011, the contract with the company serving 2 lines with a total of 10 buses was terminated on 01.07.2021. With the 'Ukome' decision dated 29.07.2021 and numbered 2021/6-17, the touristic transportation service authority was given to 'Istanbul Transportation AŞ', one of the subsidiary companies of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM).
MORE COMFORTABLE AND MORE SAFE
'Istanbul Transportation AŞ', which has been operating in the urban public transportation sector for about 12 years and provides comfortable, fast and safe transportation services to the people of Istanbul, has also started to offer a special transportation service that will bring together all local and foreign tourists with its historical and favorite places, precious and unique beauties.
NEW BUS WITH 72 PASSENGER CAPACITY STARTED TO WORK
Istanbul Transportation AŞ buses will operate between 11 stops in total, including Sultanahmet, Eminönü, Karaköy, Galataport, Dolmabahçe Palace, Naval Museum, Beylerbeyi Palace, Beşiktaş Bazaar, Taksim Square, Şişhane, Spice Bazaar, Sultanahmet, starting and ending point in Sultanahmet. . At a distance of 30 km, touristic tours will be organized for approximately 2 hours, and accessibility and ease of travel will be provided for disabled passengers. New buses and stops with a capacity of 72 passengers will be served. With the 360-degree camera system inside and outside the vehicle, the safety of passengers will be ensured at the highest level during their journey.
VOICE COMMENTARY IN 8 LANGUAGES ON BUS
On the ticket to be used by the tourists for transportation, 1 catering package for each ticket, audio narration service in 8 languages, including Turkish, English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Persian, will be provided. The buses will also have internet access with a hostess who speaks a foreign language. Istanbul's rich historical sites will be introduced with brochures and special maps prepared for local and foreign tourists. Domestic and foreign tourists will be able to purchase tickets through Belbim's tourist card, which has the “Istanbul Card” feature, through sales dealers and information desks. A 7/24 call center service will also be provided for domestic and foreign tourists.
DUE TO THEIR AUTHORITY, THEY CONTINUED TO CARRY TOURISTS ILLEGALLY
Although the authority to transport tourists passed to Transportation Inc. with the decision of UKOME, buses belonging to the private company continued to operate without a license. When the unauthorized buses entered Sultanahmet Square, IMM took the situation under report. IMM officials filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office. According to the additional article 2 of the Traffic Law, buses belonging to private companies should not be operated, but no action has been taken by the police yet.
