IMM President Ekrem İmamoğluwon the 'Bloomberg Global Mayors Competition' in 2021 with its 'Pending Invoice' project, which made a great impression not only in our country but also all over the world. In the competition, where 650 cities from all over the world applied, 50 cities along with Istanbul made it to the finals. IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu and Istanbul won the grand prize, surpassing many world cities including Paris and London from Europe and New Orleans from the United States.

In the announcement of the 19 Global Mayors Challenge, the most comprehensive and ambitious competition to date, coinciding with a time when Covid 2021 is changing life all over the world, and city governments are trying to do more with less resources than ever before, “ Some mayors have taken bold steps to tackle their city's most critical problems. We took our place among the 631 cities that were awarded in the competition, in which 15 cities from all over the world participated. We are very happy and proud to have won this award with Suspended Invoice, which brings together the culture of solidarity that comes from our traditions with technology. Thanks to this award, Suspended Invoice will spread to all cities of the world. In other words, the solidarity of Istanbul will set an example for the whole world. From here, I would like to express my gratitude to all our citizens, philanthropists, and the jury, which consists of very valuable names, who deem Istanbul worthy of an award. We succeeded together, and together we will achieve many more successes," he said.

HOW DID THE PROCESS WORK?

For the most ambitious competition to date, where the bravest and most innovative projects are awarded, the finalist cities were given 5 months by Bloomberg to test how they could develop their ideas. IMM conducted a series of tests on “How to increase the support of philanthropists to the Suspended Invoice” at the stands set up at two busiest points of the city and in the digital environment. Bloomberg Philanthropies Government Innovation department rapporteur Michael Odermatt visited Istanbul in November 2021 to closely observe the 'Pending Invoice' project and the work of the Istanbul team and report it to the selection committee.

IT HAS BEEN AN EXAMPLE TO THE WORLD

The fact that the 'Pending Invoice' practice set an example for other world cities, the potential of the urban solidarity emerging in Istanbul to become a permanent culture, and the precursor to the global solidarity culture were decisive in winning the award.

With this award, IMM carried an ancient Anatolian tradition to the digital environment during the pandemic process, and that the hand that gives does not see the hand that takes; The fact that it has created an anonymous, direct and reliable solidarity platform has been appreciated by the whole world.

1 MILLION DOLLARS AWARD TO ISTANBUL

On January 1, 2021, it was reported to the IMM project team that Istanbul won the 3 Bloomberg Global Mayors competition by being deemed worthy of a $2022 million award by the jury. The 15 winning cities will be announced to the press on January 18, 2022, with a big launch run by Bloomberg Philanthropies.
