This does not suit the youth of the Republic of Turkey," he said.
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlu, opened the Başakşehir Data Laboratory. CHP Istanbul deputy Zeynel Emre accompanied İmamoğlu at the opening in Başakşehir Başak Mahallesi. Emphasizing that data is the indispensable point of the technology world, İmamoğlu underlined that as IMM, they closely follow the studies in this field. Saying, “With the steps we take, we are making great efforts to prioritize serving those who want to improve themselves in this world and this process in this city,” İmamoğlu emphasized on transparency.
“OUR WORK WILL BE SHAPED BY THE SOCIETY DEMANDING TRANSPARENCY”
Emphasizing that they want to shape their work in line with the demands of a society that demands transparency, İmamoğlu said, “Open data is also an important method for solving the problems of the city, increasing transparency and strengthening the relationship of the local government with the citizens. In this respect, the establishment of a data center and a data laboratory, which we believe will further strengthen our process, will be another important step in this journey. Thanks to this place, we will support entrepreneurs. We will create a healthy infrastructure so that they can produce projects that meet their needs and we will be together with them. We will support them. For this reason, the 'Zemin Istanbul Data Laboratory' and the technology centers that we will open later in other districts will actually serve these processes completely," he said.
“TURKEY IS NOT AT THE PLACE IT DESERVE IN TECHNOLOGY”
Stating that Turkey is not in the place it deserves in terms of high technology, İmamoğlu said, “As a country, we have not invested in high technology. Emphasizing that this country, in my opinion, has a limited and enormous population of young people in the world, unfortunately we could not create an infrastructure that would strengthen the presence of those young people on this journey. And perhaps we are experiencing the tightest and most painful brain drain in this area. If you consider that Turkey's population under the age of 30-35 is at the level of 60-65 percent, in an environment where no centimeter should be missed in the 21st century, we have left this area completely blank. And unfortunately, we have not delegated this job to our real people, the society, the community, who are supposed to manage this area. We did not support their investments with them," he said.
“TECHNOLOGY DOES NOT ACCEPT OPPRESSIVE ENVIRONMENT”
Emphasizing that the field of technology is a medium that demands freedom, İmamoğlu said:
“It never accepts an oppressive environment. There they must remain free, produce, be in solidarity, and have maximum communication. There is no prejudice there, there is science, there is reason, they can never accept that something else comes into play. They don't. So when I look at you, I see it. In an environment where such a free, unique field and technology is strengthened, supported and invested in, Turkey, the Republic of Turkey, produces and presents the world's top-notch high-tech products, produces the highest value-added resource, and pours the strongest capital for the future of the country into this country. There will be brains if we provide this environment for valuable young people like you. Therefore, I attach great importance to such initiatives. And I think that should be our real topic, our real agenda. We need to have an order, a system based on catching the age and not missing it.”
”OUR INVESTMENTS WILL CONTINUE“
Sharing the information that he will conduct inspections at the Halk Bread Factory in Arnavutköy, after the event, 90 percent of its construction has been completed, İmamoğlu said, “Of course, such technological facilities should be built, but today we are making this investment because we live in an agenda and period when our country and city need bread. This should not be missed. We have to deal with this problem in this country. This is our responsibility, our duty. But we must get rid of this agenda as soon as possible and entrust this country to precious young minds and young population like you. Otherwise, if we miss this age, we will betray our nation, our 100-year-old Republic, our thousands of years of history. This does not suit Turkey. This does not suit the youth of the Republic of Turkey," he said. Giving the good news that such investments will continue, İmamoğlu shared the information that a similar center will be opened on the opposite side of the city. Noting that both the facility opened and the center on the Anatolian side will be located on the metro lines, İmamoğlu pointed out that it will be easy to reach the said areas.

Calling the young people to join the data center laboratory they opened, İmamoğlu said, “Come here. Bring your friends. Everything of IMM and all public institutions belongs to our people. This place belongs to you, our precious young people. So own it here. You will say, 'This is mine'. This is the equivalent of the word 'Istanbul is yours'. This is yours. But there is only one difference, it is not yours alone; 16 million people. I would like to entrust the 'Istanbul is Yours' application here, especially to young people. Because we want to develop the 'Istanbul Yours' application with you, we want to expand it. The number of downloads of the application in 150 month goes towards 1 thousand. We want to reach 7-8 million, 10 million here. Because the 'Istanbul is Yours' platform is valuable for: We will instantly communicate with Istanbulites there. We will ask, we will do. We will take their opinion on whether it is right or wrong, and we will act accordingly. We will also make democracy the strongest. Thanks to what? It is thanks to this valuable technology,” he said.
Naim Erol Özgüner, Head of IT Department of IMM, also shared detailed information about the data center in his speech at the event. After the speeches, the opening ribbon of Başakşehir Data Laboratory; İmamoğlu, Emre and Özgüner cut with the young people who started their education. Visiting the data center after the opening, İmamoğlu wrote on the smart board, "Everything is going very well in Istanbul."
PURPOSE OF THE DATA LABORATORY
Lab; was established for the purpose of cooperation between institutions, students and related experts in the field of data and artificial intelligence, and to carry out studies in the field of machine learning. Among the components of the data lab; It will include “Big Data Storage and Processing”, “Real Time Feed”, “Data Visualization”, “BI, Reporting and Visualization”, “Analytics”, “ETL/ELT Data Integration”, “Data Discovery” and “Data Management” . In the center; "Artificial Intelligence and Its Applications", "Data Science and Engineering Programs", "Geographic Information Science Program", "Big Data Technologies Program", "Business Analytics Program" and "Machine Learning and Deep Learning Program" trainings will be given.
Data laboratory usage purposes were determined as follows:
