İBB Carries Free Public Milk Campaign to a New Dimension

İBB has taken the free People's Milk campaign, which it started on October 16, 2019, to a new dimension. A 'Milk Purchase Protocol for Halk Dairy' was signed between the IMM and the Istanbul Provincial Cattle Breeding Union Economic Enterprise. Announcing that they will purchase milk from 3 villages of 21 different districts of Istanbul, the IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu“One of my craziest projects is the Halk Süt project. We are aware of the real problems of Istanbul and our people. And we are an administration that feels responsible for finding solutions to them. Of course, we are not the ones who manage the economic process in Turkey. But despite these environments, we will continue to support our children in times of crisis, by providing opportunities for our children, by standing by their side in an environment where our families are suffering, and we will work diligently to support them in times of crisis. In this sense, the people of Istanbul should rest in peace," he said. Noting that as İBB, they have distributed 14,5 million liters of milk to date, İmamoğlu said, “In return, we spent 77 million liras from our budget and we paid this to our farmers in Istanbul. If we take this year into account, within the scope of the contract we will sign today, we will have increased the amount of milk we will distribute by the end of 2022 to 22 million liters and the financing allocated by our municipality for this purpose to 140 million liras. While the number of children to whom we distributed free milk was 2019 thousand in 86, 2020 thousand in 118; In 2021, it reached 125 thousand. In 2022, we calculate that our distribution of Halk Süt will exceed 150 thousand children”.

A "Milk Purchase Protocol for People's Milk", which will be delivered to 130 thousand children in 2022, was signed between the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) and the Istanbul Provincial Cattle Breeding Union Economic Enterprise. To the protocol; Parliamentary CHP Group Deputy Chairman Engin Altay, CHP Istanbul Provincial President Canan Kaftancıoğlu and IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu and the families benefiting from the application of Halk Süt, signed by Yavuz Saltık, Head of Social Services Department of IMM, and Tamer Tunca, President of Istanbul Province Cattle Breeders' Association. İmamoğlu gave his speech before the signing ceremony held at the Haliç Congress Center in Sütlüce, among the children who were delivered to Halk Süt.

İMAMOĞLU: “REAL PROTOCOL; KIDS”

“The actual protocol is as you can see here; İmamoğlu said, “We are together for a special meeting because they are the hosts. They ask, 'What is your craziest project? One of my craziest projects - the most valuable project of all of us, together with my colleagues in the Metropolitan Municipality - is really the Halk Dairy project. A heartfelt thank you to all those who contributed. The existence of Halk Süt is very valuable.” Asking the children next to him about their report cards, İmamoğlu said to the parents, “The report cards received today are of course a note, but they do not mean everything. Please let's carry it to the future by making sentences that will increase the courage of our children and young people, make up for a deficiency if any, and make them happy. Please don't let our children get upset because of their report cards. They will surely fix it. Let's grow their trust."

“WE CALCULATE THAT OUR PUBLIC MILK DISTRIBUTION WILL EXCEED 2022 THOUSAND CHILDREN IN 150”

Emphasizing the importance of milk in the growth process of children, İmamoğlu shared the following information:

“In 2019, we started the issue of People's Milk on October 16, the 'World Food Day'. We started with a lot of faith. We have left behind an implementation process of 2 years and 3 months. Today, in 2022, we are with you to buy directly from the producers and distribute them to our beautiful children, who are consumers, through their mothers and fathers. We will make a very valuable agreement with our very valuable producers, with the esteemed President of our union and his representation, with all our producers. As İBB, we have distributed 14,5 million liters of milk to date. In return, we spent 77 million liras from our budget and paid this to our farmer in Istanbul. In 2022, we calculate that our distribution of Halk Milk will exceed 150 thousand children.”

TELL THE SUPPORT TO THE MANUFACTURER

Emphasizing that the scale they set up for the benefit of the public has two eyes, İmamoğlu said, “First; Here are our beautiful children we see here… This service goes to them. But we also have manufacturers on the other side. Therefore, we should look at the benefits of this service for Istanbul in this way. I regret to express that; In addition to the pandemic crisis we have been experiencing in recent years, unfortunately, we are also experiencing a deep economic crisis. Turkey can quickly overcome this economic crisis with the right production, management and right flow. It can overcome quickly and it is a country that has the capacity. However, in this sense, especially in order to overcome this process, it is imperative that our producers also be supported.” Expressing that there were high increases in the prices of fertilizers, feed, diesel and similar inputs in the process, İmamoğlu exemplified the institutional support they gave to the farmers and livestock producers in Istanbul.

“WE BUY MILK FROM 21 VILLAGES”

Reminding that İBB was targeted and criticized by some circles, İmamoğlu said, “We, as İBB, are determined to buy milk from the Istanbul Cattle Breeders' Association. We will not give up on this decision. Of course there is criticism. We see this too. But we just listened to our esteemed president, Tamer Tunca. As he stated, with the support of our institution and the strengthening of our union, we buy milk from many producers from the districts of Istanbul. There are 6 neighborhoods within our Arnavutköy district. We have 10 neighborhoods connected to Çatalca. We have 5 neighborhoods in Silivri. We get our milk from 21 neighborhoods or 21 villages with their old names, from our producers, by providing them with a regular income in these difficult days. Therefore, we make a regular income transfer. At the same time, we have determined a price level for Istanbul milk. Nobody dares to buy the producer's milk below this price. Therefore, we provide a regulation. It is also very valuable,” he said.

“THE HEART OF ISTANBUL IS COMFORTABLE”

Noting that there are children who cannot reach milk in Istanbul, İmamoğlu said, “We are aware of the real problems of Istanbul and our people. And we are an administration that feels responsible for finding solutions to them. Of course, we are not the ones who manage the economic process in Turkey. Or municipalities are not responsible for today's price increases. But despite these environments, we will continue to support our children in times of crisis, by providing opportunities for our children, by standing by their side in an environment where our families are suffering, and we will work diligently to support them in times of crisis. In this sense, Istanbul's hearts should be at ease," he said.

NAME LOOKING FOR THE PUBLIC MILK MASCOT

prof. Dr. At the protocol signing ceremony, where Celalettin Koçak made a presentation on “The Physical and Cognitive Effects of Milk on Children”, Tamer Tunca, President of Istanbul Provincial Cattle Breeders' Association, also made a speech. After the speeches, Saltık and Tunca signed the "milk purchase protocol for Halk Süt" between Altay, Kaftancıoğlu, İmamoğlu, the participating children and the Halk Süt mascot. Colorful dialogues took place between İmamoğlu and the participating children about what the name of the Halk Süt mascot would be.
