Visually Impaired People Used Airplanes

The visually impaired trainees of Bağcılar Municipality Feyzullah Kıyıklık Palace for the Handicapped, who went to the cockpit with the instructors in the Istanbul Specialized Free Zone, had a flight experience accompanied by a simulator. Disabled Mustafa Gürses, who said that he got over his phobia of airplanes after a half-hour flight, described his feelings as "When I entered the turbulence, I felt like I was driving a minibus on a stony road".

Bağcılar Municipality organized an interesting event in order to raise social awareness in the field of disability during the 'White Cane Week for the Visually Impaired', which is commemorated between 7-14 January. Bagcilar Mayor Lokman Çağırıcı asked the visually impaired in the survey, "What is your dream?" he was asked. The visually impaired people who received training and worked at Feyzullah Kıyıklık Palace for the Disabled were taken to the pilot training center in the Istanbul Specialized Free Zone, following the result of the "I want to fly a plane" in the survey.

They flew at 12 thousand feet

The visually impaired got on the simulator, which is the same as the Airbus A320-200 Passenger plane. Disabled people, who took their places in the cockpit, had a flight experience at an altitude of 12 thousand feet, from taking off to the use of aircraft control systems, accompanied by instructors. It was seen that the participants were sometimes excited during the half-hour flight pleasure.

It's like driving a minibus on a stony road

Noting that they had a good experience on this special day, one of the disabled trainees, Mustafa Gürses, said, “It was a very different feeling. I had virtually boarded a plane in my dreams before. I usually fell. That's why I had a phobia of airplanes. I overcame my fear here. When I entered the turbulence, I felt as if I was driving a minibus on a stony road. I am very happy. I would like to fly the same way again,” he said.

Disabled people conveyed their thanks to Chairman Çağrııcı who prepared this opportunity for them.
