Prioritizing equality of opportunity in education, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality took action to ensure that children in the Capital city receive foreign language education. With the cooperation protocol signed between Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş and Seda Yekeler Education Foundation (SEYEV) President Seda Yekeler, children will start learning English free of charge in Family Life Centers as of February. Drawing attention to the importance of foreign language education, Yavaş said, “We have always felt the lack of speaking a language, but there is an opportunity in front of you. You are alone with an opportunity that will open your horizons and make your future green.”

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues its human-oriented works without slowing down.

Continuing its 'student-friendly' practices in line with its social municipality understanding, the Metropolitan Municipality is implementing a new application that will ensure equal opportunities in education. Free English education will be provided, hosted by the Metropolitan Municipality, for students from the capital city to learn a foreign language.

PRESIDENT YAVAS SIGNED THE COOPERATION PROTOCOL WITH SEYEV

The Metropolitan Municipality, which has implemented many projects from free internet service to children receiving distance education in 918 neighborhoods, to 50 percent discount on water bills, from discounted student subscription cards to solving the housing problem, will now provide free foreign language education support to students in the Capital.

With the cooperation protocol signed between Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş and Seda Yekeler Education Foundation (SEYEV) President Seda Yekeler, children between the ages of 7-17 will learn English with different methods at the Family Life Centers (AYM) serving within the Metropolitan Municipality.

YAVAŞ: “YOU ARE ALONE WITH AN OPPORTUNITY THAT WILL OPEN YOUR HORIZON AND GROW YOUR FUTURE”

Yavaş, who attended the protocol signing ceremony of the project, which will be implemented with the slogan “You can speak too”, which will open the children studying in the capital to the world, explained the importance of foreign language education to children with the following words:

“You have an opportunity ahead of you. You are alone with an opportunity that will open your horizons and make your future green. Hopefully, you will be able to use the English you will learn now, by improving it over time and using it in your future life. When we go to Kesikköprü Dam with you, when you stay there for 15 days and return to your families on condition that you speak English all the time, you will also be able to speak English at a level that will explain your reason.”

Emphasizing that SEYEV has completed its 10th year, Foundation President Seda Yekeler said that they have achieved English language acquisition through different methods:

“When we know Turkish, we can understand only 84 million people today, but if you speak and understand the English spoken by the world, you can understand not only 84 million but the whole world. We made our children speak English in the language laboratories we set up in every corner of Turkey. We started this project with the visionary thinking of our dear president, emphasizing the importance of knowing a language, which is one of the basic conditions of raising generations who always face the light, with the importance he attaches to education.”

CLASSES WILL START IN FEBRUARY

The Women and Family Services Department will continue to receive applications from children who want to benefit from language education until the end of the semester break, starting from January 24, 2022.

The lessons to be given by the Metropolitan Municipality expert trainers and SEYEV volunteers will be held on weekends (Saturday-Sunday) for the acquisition of English, which will start as of February and last for 3 months. After the foreign language training, which will end in May, the second phase of the project will be carried out with accommodation. Students will have the opportunity to both learn the language and spend their free time by participating in the 15-day camps to be held at the Kesikköprü Recreation Facility during the summer vacation.

The trainers, who will voluntarily give English lessons to the children of the capital city, made the following evaluations about the education technique:

Furkan Ozdemir: “English is a universal language valid in the world. Learning English has a very important place in learning their culture and career planning.”

Can Rest: “First of all, we aim to make children love learning English. We need to show them that English is a door. We tell them about the doors that can be opened in English. Within the scope of the project, we are making students adopt English as a lifestyle.”

Msra Nida Long: “We voluntarily give English education to children with a single education method. I hope these will be a very good step for the children.”
