Republican People's Party (CHP) Adana Provincial Chairman Mehmet Çelebi made a written press statement regarding the energy crisis that has occurred in recent days.

ENERGY CRISIS HAS HIT INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION

The problems experienced by our country in natural gas purchased from Iran have deeply affected industrial production. As it is known, the problem of natural gas flow is closely related to electricity. Because 32% of electricity in our country is produced from gas. This being the case, gas and electricity supplied to the industry were cut for a temporary solution to the gas flow problem. This is an energy crisis affecting industrial production. Even if the production stops temporarily, the disruption will increase the production costs, this increase will be reflected on the consumer and deepen the already unbearable cost of living. If the problem in gas flow continues, power cuts and gas restrictions will be reduced to residential levels, and the energy crisis will reach a different dimension. We hope we don't have to go through all this, and the rulers of the country can take the precautions they haven't taken before and the preparations they haven't made from now on.

THE CRISIS IS CAUSED BY IGNORISMENT AND LACK OF PLANNING

The only reason for the energy crisis we are experiencing is not that Iran cuts back on the gas it supplies to our country. Iran has already followed a policy that prioritizes its own needs by reducing the amount of gas it exports when its domestic consumption reaches a certain level for years. Only 10% of our country's natural gas imports come from Iran; 25% from Azerbaijan; 33% are from Russia. So what will we do as Turkey? Iran gas cut, we disrupted our industrial production, will we stop production completely when Iran cuts gas? Looking at these data, Russia's gas cut may bring life to a standstill. This problem is not just a problem of the gas flow we receive from a country. As stated by all the experts of the subject, chambers of engineers, and people who worked as a manager at Botaş in the previous periods, the amount of gas in our stocks is insufficient! While 20% of the country's consumption amount can be stored in international storage systems; The storage system in Turkey can only store 5%. Moreover, we are faced with a grave lack of foresight, as our existing storage system, which is already scarce, is not filled due to high prices. In summary, the main reason for the crisis is not Iran's gas cut; wrong energy policies followed by the government, inadequacy of natural gas storage, foreign dependency, lack of foresight and lack of planning. Those responsible are those who (cannot) govern the country. As in many fields, unfortunately, our industrialists, citizens and our nation are paying the price of an unqualified, incompetent and shortsighted management approach in the field of energy.

STORAGE CAPACITY MUST BE INCREASED, THE PROCESS MUST BE MANAGED BY COMMON MIND

We want our citizens to know that; We import 99% of our gas needs in our country, where the good news of "We have found gas" is given every year. In other words, we are 99% foreign-dependent for natural gas. For this reason, the solution lies in the development of storage systems, the determination of energy policies with the mind and science, and the correct planning in a foresighted manner. In our country, it is necessary to develop storage systems as soon as possible to meet at least 20% of our natural gas consumption. In addition, it will be in the interest of our country to evaluate the solution proposals of our Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, energy policy experts and competent people and to manage this process with a common mind.

CITIZEN'S CRISIS: HIRE INVOICES

Our country has started to regress rapidly in all areas, especially after 2018. Our money has become worthless, all prices from needle to thread have increased 4-5 times, our purchasing power has decreased, while a handful of supporters are getting rich; Our nation has always been impoverished. Apart from the crisis in the energy supply, our citizens are experiencing the real crisis in the bills. With the new year, the increase of 127% in electricity has almost infuriated our citizens. Fuel prices caused contacts to be closed. The hikes, increased taxes, and the rise in food prices made our people swoon. Every day, we deal with the problems of dozens of helpless citizens. We get hundreds of emails. When we go out on the street, we hear a thousand sighs to whomever we touch. Increases, bills and financial difficulties are the first agenda of our citizens. As the CHP Adana organization, we will focus on the agenda of our citizens. In the coming days, we will come together with our deputies and our entire organization and our citizens on the street, in the bazaar, in the market, and share how we will overcome the current difficulties under the power of the Nation alliance. While doing this, we will not pursue any artificial agenda. We will tell our voters about our solution proposals for all segments of our society, and we will ask for their support to change this unfair system that is making our country worse every day.
