Stating that the individual experiences mental blocking in the burnout syndrome and their productivity decreases, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “We see this syndrome mostly in people working in the service sector and in jobs that require constant urgency. One of the characteristics of these people is that they have a high sense of responsibility. Tarhan states that burnout syndrome is less common in workplaces where words of appreciation, praise and approval are used extensively. Very common in industrial societies

Noting that burnout syndrome is very common in industrial societies and environments where competition is intense, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “It comes out more easily in environments where competition is intense and social support is weak, and it is very closely related to the inability to manage one's stress. The word stress is actually a concept that emerged with industrialization. The word stress first appeared in the mining industry in the 1800s as an intersection point, stress point, pressure point, pressure point. The fatigue of the miners and the places where the mine loads were above normal were defined as stressful. After the 60s, he entered the medical literature.” said.

The body's fight-flight response to stress

Stating that a Canadian physiologist about stress made a very good discovery, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “It revealed the body's stress-fight and flight response. In the moment of danger, the body reacts in two ways. It's either fighting or fleeing. If he fights, the nervous system is stimulated by the adrenaline secreted, the shoulder and neck back muscles contract, the vascular resistance increases, the blood pressure rises, the pupils dilate, the attention increases, the muscles tense, and the feeling of fighting for attack and defense occurs. Or, if the danger is too great, a feeling of escape occurs. The brain secretes neuro energy too much, blood pressure drops and the person falls and faints. Disruption in this sleep pattern, exhaustion, feeling of tiredness attract attention as physical symptoms. That's why we call it burnout." said.

Noting that emotional symptoms also occur in burnout syndrome, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “The most important emotional symptoms are that the person is pessimistic, hopeless, seeing himself as worthless and unsuccessful, losing his professional self-confidence, and saying, "I can't do it, I can't succeed." There are even those who call it the trapped syndrome. The person feels trapped in such a state of mind. Imagine being thrown into a bottomless, deep pit. What mood do you feel? That's how these people feel.” said.

Stating that there are intellectual symptoms in this syndrome, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “If these people normally managed their thoughts, they could manage their emotions and stress, but they cannot use their psychological resources because they are mentally exhausted and collapsed. Behavioral distortions appear

More burnout syndrome is very common in the service sector, people who cannot say no to people easily fall into burnout syndrome. Since he can't say no, he throws it in and says I'm exhausted, I can't. We see it appearing in artists. They can leave the shooting unfinished, they can leave the set.” He said. Noting that people with burnout syndrome, their productivity at work decreases and their small problems aggravate too much, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “Their functionality is very low, there are people who cannot provide job satisfaction. We see this syndrome mostly in people working in the service sector and in jobs that require constant urgency. One of the characteristics of these people is their high sense of responsibility. Because they have a high sense of responsibility, they cannot say no to anyone and cannot tolerate failure. In fact, they have thoughts such as 'it's better if I die after failing'. This is a well-intentioned approach, but there are limits to human beings.” he said.

Take small breaks

Making some recommendations to prevent burnout syndrome, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “A person has to take responsibility and burden according to the situation, condition and position at the workplace. When he's exhausted from everything, he leaves things unfinished by relying on him." said.

They always complain and focus on the negative.

Noting that these people's thinking habits are wrong in burnout syndrome, which can be felt with preliminary symptoms, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “These people always complain. They always complain about their situation. They can't be happy with the little things, they can't see the positive things they have, they always focus on the negative things. They say, 'I think I earn very little despite my hard work, I get tired very quickly, I experience pessimism for no reason'. In these people, forgetfulness increases a lot along with getting tired quickly. We see that these people are people who get upset very easily. They are very picky. Physical illnesses begin to occur more frequently in these people. For example, he does not smile from his heart. He tends to make sex seem like a duty, without pleasure.” he said.

Can be eliminated with psychotherapy

Stating that the World Health Organization classified this syndrome as a disease and defined it as burnout syndrome, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said that when the syndrome was noticed in the initial period, it disappeared with psychotherapy. Noting that people with the syndrome have achieved many things easily in life, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “Currently, the new generation is a conformist generation. He achieved many things easily and without effort. No, no, he doesn't know. He doesn't know what hunger is. He has never been challenged in his life. The new generation does not know about the difficulties our grandfathers went through and how we won the War of Independence. It is necessary to learn to struggle in the face of difficulties and to cope with problems.” said.

Philosophy of life is important in the protective period

Stating that there is a protective period before the burnout syndrome, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said, “A person's philosophy of life in the protective period is very important here. If you get offended at a small obstacle, you can enter the burnout syndrome, but pain develops a person. Some psychologists have even done research on birth types. Stress levels of children born by normal birth and cesarean section were measured. Children born by cesarean section, that is, children born without entering the birth canal, come out of the mother's womb easily. In these children, stress hormone is secreted more when a needle is inserted into their heels, but less stress hormone is secreted when a needle is inserted into the heels of children who pass through the birth canal with difficulty for one or two hours.
