The Special Talented School Planned to be Established in Bursa Will Set an Example

European High Talent Council (ECHA) Executive Board Member Prof. Dr. Christa Bauer was the guest of Bursa City Council Special Talented Working Group. In the meeting where Bursa City Council President Şevket Orhan gave information about 'the full-time gifted school planned to be established in Bursa', Prof. Dr. Christa Bauer shared her experiences.

prof. Dr. Bursa City Council President Şevket Orhan, who thanked Christa Bauer for her participation, emphasized that gifted children are of great importance in the development of a country. Orhan, who stated that one of the basic resources needed to make an economy a giant is the importance given to gifted children, said, “Full-time schools for the gifted have been established in many countries such as South Korea and their development has accelerated. For the last 2 years, we have been conducting field studies with the experts of the subject in Bursa regarding gifted children. When we look at Bursa, according to the records of the Provincial Directorate of National Education, approximately 600 thousand students receive education. If we accept at least 2 percent of these students as gifted in line with the researches, we have approximately 12 thousand such students. When they do not receive the appropriate education, these children either go unnoticed or become atrophied. For this reason, we have reached a certain stage in the school work we have planned for full-time gifted students in Bursa.”

prof. Dr. Christa Bauer, on the other hand, said that the education model of the gifted differs from country to country. Stating that he is from Austria, Bauer said, “To give an example from Austria, we have a population of 9 million. There is only one school in the country and it takes those with an IQ above 1. I believe that the full-time school you want to establish in Bursa will set a good example. "There are very good teachers in Turkey," he said. Referring to the importance of developing the character of children 'with human values', Bauer said that the emotions and passions of children should be understood first and that motivation is also important here. Bauer also gave information about the education models related to the gifted in Europe and said, “In Austria, we give students the right to go to university without graduating from the school they are studying. They decide for themselves what is right for them. For example, in England, children can enter and experience a few departments before taking the university entrance exam. There is also a peer learning model in our country. In other words, students teach at certain periods and transfer their knowledge to their peers.”
