ZIGANA TUNNEL IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT CORRODS

Zigana Tunnel, like Marmaray, Eurasia Tunnel, is an important part of international transportation corridors such as Northern Marmara Highway, Istanbul Airport, Osmangazi Bridge, Ordu-Giresun Airport, Iyidere Logistics Port, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, and is an important part of the world wide Emphasizing that it is a work of art, Karaismailoğlu said, “It is a source of pride for our nation. We need to look at the Zigana Tunnel from this perspective. We cannot see the Zigana Tunnel as a project that only concerns Trabzon and Gümüşhane. Here, with this study, we connect Trabzon, which is the most important trade center of the Eastern Black Sea Region, to Bayburt, Aşkale and Erzurum via Gümüşhane. This is our project; It is of critical importance for the development of trade, exports and employment in the Black Sea as well as in Eastern Anatolia. It is vital for all Middle Eastern and Eurasian countries, especially Iran, to reach the Black Sea. In addition to Turkey's East-West directional trade mobility, it will also enable North-South directional trade mobility, and will provide the opportunity for our exporters to transport their products to the world by sea at lower costs. This and similar projects of key importance will bring our country to 2022 billion dollars of exports in 250 and will change the trade balance in favor of Turkey.

TRAVEL TIME WILL BE DECREASED BY 60 MINUTES FOR HEAVY DUTY VEHICLES

Noting that the transportation from the coastal areas to the inner regions has been provided under the conditions allowed by the Black Sea geography until recently, Minister of Transport, Karaismailoğlu said that they have designed many roads and tunnels in the region within the scope of the improvement works of the north-south axes. Karaismailoğlu stated that they put many more into service, such as the Ovit Tunnel, the Lifekurtaran Tunnel, the Salmankaş Tunnel, the Salarha Tunnel, the İkizdere Tunnels, and the Eğribel Tunnel. He noted that while contributing to the development of commercial activities and thus the enrichment of the region, they also increased the possibility of safe driving. Underlining that the Zigana Tunnel is one of the most important projects realized within the scope of the north-south axes, Karaismailoğlu continued his speech as follows:

“This route on the historical Silk Road line carries a very high traffic load. The Zigana Tunnel project starts at Maçka/Başarköy location at the 44th kilometer of Trabzon – Aşkale Road and connects to the Köstere-Gümüşhane Road at the 67th kilometer with a bridge crossing. Zigana tunnel consists of 14 meters long double tube. Its total length exceeds 500 kilometers with the connecting roads. With an investment cost of 15 billion Liras, the existing 2,5-meter-wide state road will become a 12×2 lane divided highway. When it is put into service, the elevation, which was 2 thousand 2 meters at the summit of Zigana and was lowered to 10 meters in the 1st tunnel, will be lowered by 1.825 meters to 600 meters. With the shortening of the current road, travel time will be reduced by 1.212 minutes for cars and 30 minutes for heavy-duty vehicles. Thus, a total of 60 million TL will be saved annually, 19 million TL from time and 40 million TL from fuel. Carbon emissions will also decrease by 59 thousand tons. Zigana Tunnel; It will offer road users safe and comfortable travel opportunities by making history, especially during the winter months. In addition, problems such as sharp bends, ramps and stone falling from steep slopes on the existing Trabzon-Gümüşhane line will be eliminated. your traffic; Seamless flow will be provided to the settlements on the Black Sea coast, to the port, to the tourism and industrial centers. With this project, great and valuable contributions will be made in making international trade faster and more reliable.”
