January 5, Adana's Independence Day is celebrated with 100 events in its 100th year. The celebrations, which started on December 3, 2021, continued on January 5th. In the morning, a flag was hung between the Büyüksaat and Ulucami minaret, as it was on the day of liberation 100 years ago. Governor of Adana Süleyman Elban, Mayor of Adana Metropolitan Municipality Zeydan Karalar and civil and military officials of the city attended the flag ceremony. The flag, which was hung in the 100th year, was created by sewing the fabrics brought by 100 women from Adana and sewing at the Adana Metropolitan Municipality Vocational Training Center Sewing Workshop.

THE SPIRIT OF TOGETHER AND SOLIDARITY FROM 100 YEARS AGO REVISED

On January 5, 1922, the day Adana was liberated from the occupation of the enemy, the way the flag was hung, solidarity and self-sacrifice has thus been revived today.

After the ceremony at Büyüksaat, civil and military dignitaries of the city attended the wreath ceremony held in front of the Atatürk Monument in Atatürk Park.

Civil and military officials later joined the celebrations held in Uğur Mumcu Square, accompanied by a cortege.

Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar celebrated the 100th anniversary of the liberation in his speech after greeting the participants, guests and people of Adana.

THIS NATION WILL NOT BE PRIVILEGED

President Zeydan Karalar said, “As Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said, societies that do not know their past cannot design the future. The answer given to him by the people of Adana after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk came to Adana after the First World War and held meetings is very important. The people of Adana said, 'Pasha, we know how to die in this land where we were born. But we do not die without killing. We are at your disposal with all our material and spiritual assets. We are ready to give our blood and our lives. As long as we don't let the enemy boots trample these holy lands,' he said. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said in the room where he held the meeting, 'Yes, the enemy's boots will not be able to travel in these lands and this nation will not be a prisoner'.

THE NATIONAL STRUGGLE STARTS WITH ATATÜRK'S ARRIVAL TO ADANA

President Zeydan Karalar, emphasizing the words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk after the liberation, "The first attempt of this ministry has embodied in this country, in this beautiful Adana", said, "The National Struggle begins with the arrival of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Adana. . "After the contacts and meetings he held here, he instructs the establishment of militia forces and provides weapons support," he said.

President Zeydan Karalar stated that the French and Armenians who occupied Adana committed cruelty and massacres and gave information about the resistance of the militia forces. President Zeydan Karalar, who also reminded of the great clashes in the districts, told about the raids made by young patriots to French arsenals and police stations by sacrificing themselves.

Speaking about the leading figures of the forces resisting the enemy in Adana, President Zeydan Karalar stated that a ceasefire with the French was a foresighted move by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to ensure that the Turkish Grand National Assembly was recognized.

President Zeydan Karalar concluded his speech by saying, “It is our duty to keep the legacy we have inherited from our heroes alive with the inspiration we get from them.”

COLORFUL, INTENSE AND MEANINGFUL CEREMONY

After the speeches of Adana Governor Süleyman Elban and Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar, poems were read, folk dances were played, and a mehter team performance was held.

The flag named “To Adana, one of Atatürk's mujahideen”, brought from the Pozantı District Governorate by cyclists, was delivered to Governor Süleyman Elban.

Makbule Cemil, 100 years old, presented a historical flag to the students.

Arif Nihat Asya, the author of the flag poem, was commemorated on January 5, his death anniversary.

The prizes were given to the winners of the painting, poetry, composition and photography competitions held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Independence, at Uğur Mumcu Square.

During the celebrations, the Gendarmerie Special Forces also performed various demonstrations on land and in the air.
