China Builds Oil Tanker-sized Fish Farming Ship

The world's first 100 thousand-ton capacity smart fish production ship "Guoxin 1", developed by China, started service for testing purposes at the port in Qingdao city of Shandong province. With a length of 249,9 meters, “Guoxin 1” was designed with a displacement tonnage of 100 thousand tons. The ship, which has 15 pools where aquaculture will be grown, has a total surface area of ​​80 thousand square meters. The ship, which is expected to enter service in April; The fish farm tankers were equipped with underwater cameras, sensors and automatic feeding facilities. With this vessel, the company wants to test the cultivation of the local fish species yellow croaker, as well as Atlantic salmon.

The state-owned Qingdao Conson Group, which financed the project, took the first step in this field by producing a 3-tonne ship two years ago. Dong Shaoguang, vice president of the company, said after the first ship started operating, “Today we have taken a big step towards realizing the country's plans to build a fleet of smart fish farms. The main goal of building the ship, which will produce fish without polluting the environment, is to produce fish in an environment where there is no pollution in the open ocean. The next goal of the project, which was implemented in cooperation with China Shipbuilding Group, the world's largest shipyard group, is to increase the number of ships with these qualifications to 50.
