A new freight train loaded with 445 tons of goods has sailed from Quanzhou, in eastern China's Fujian province, towards Moscow. This is the first Sino-European freight train route to sail from Quanzhou, a major departure point on the Maritime Silk Road.
The train in question is expected to arrive in Moscow in about 20 days, passing through the Manzhouli border station in Russia. This translates to a 25-day savings time compared to shipping from Quanzhou by sea. Chen Hanhe, manager of Mega Soft (China) Co., Ltd, a manufacturer of hygienic materials, stated that the new train route will significantly reduce transportation costs.
Quanzhou Trade Office Manager Zhang Xiaohong announced that the export volume of Quanzhou, which is an export-oriented city, exceeded 2021 billion yuan (about 200 billion dollars) in 31,5. He also said that Zhang Quanzhou's trade with countries and regions along the maritime Silk Road exceeded 100 billion yuan last year, adding that the new railway will further accelerate the city's export trend.
