With the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, 15 thousand teachers were appointed at the ceremony held at Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center.

Speaking at the appointment ceremony of 15 thousand teachers held at the Beştepe National Congress and Culture Center, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer said that the last 20 years in education have been an important period in which massiveization and great transformation took place.

Stating that a significant record has been broken in schooling rates from pre-school to higher education, Özer said, “The number of our pre-school students, which was around 200 thousand, reached 1,6 million. Our schooling rate in secondary education has increased from 44 percent to 89 percent. Our enrollment rate in higher education has also increased from 14 percent to 44 percent.” said.

Minister of National Education Özer stated that this year, as in the last 20 years, the Ministry of National Education received the largest share from the budget. Explaining that OECD countries reached the stage of massification in education in the 1950s and they focused on increasing the quality of education in the last 50-60 years, Minister Özer said that Turkey could not experience the massification stage in education in this period.

“We caught the OECD average”

Expressing that the number of classrooms and schools in Turkey has risen many times over the total number of schools and classrooms in the history of the Republic, thanks to the recent education campaign, Özer said that the number of students per classroom and teacher has reached the OECD average.

Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer also referred to the report containing the results of the student achievement research, which is organized by the OECD in 4-year periods, and noted that Turkey is the first country to increase the scores in Turkish, Mathematics and Science literacy the most. Özer said, “This shows that the revolution in education in the last 20 years both includes massification, increases inclusiveness and takes place in a quality-oriented manner.” he said. Özer stated that with the appointment of 15 thousand teachers made today, they will increase the number of teachers to over 1,2 million.

“The biggest longing of the education community since the 1960s”

Reminding that the biggest longing of the education community since the 1960s, the proposal regarding the Teaching Profession Law was submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mahmut Özer said, “I hope this week our law will be opened for discussion at the General Assembly.” said.

Emphasizing that the Ministry is always there for teachers to be strong, Minister Özer continued: “While the number of teachers who benefited from the trainings organized by the Ministry of National Education in 2020 was 1,1 million, this number reached 2021 million at the end of 2,9. In other words, by completing more than one training in a year, a teacher started to look at the events related to the increase in the quality of education in the school and classroom with a different perspective, and the number of training hours per teacher reached the highest figure of the last 10 years, approximately 93,4 hours. We will continue to support this support in 2022 as well. With the enactment of the Teaching Profession Law, we will all have signed the beginning of a new era in which the rates of our teachers, who are career-oriented, receive continuous education, and especially graduate education, increase.”
