Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said that within the scope of the protocol signed with Hungary, the Turkish Police will be on duty at the border gates on the Hungary-Serbia and Hungary-Romania border.
Minister Soylu, who is in Hungary as part of his official visit, met with Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Dr. Had a bilateral meeting with Sandor Pinter. The two Ministers later attended the meeting between delegations.
After the meetings, our Minister, Mr. Soylu and Mr. Pinter spoke at the joint press conference.
Minister Soylu said that they signed a very important agreement today within the framework of the agreement reached at the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (YDSK) meetings held in Ankara on November 11 this year with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Pointing out that the epidemic, migration and energy problem poses a global problem, as well as regional problems, our Minister Mr. Soylu said, “In addition to these global problems, there are also regional problems that concern us all. Unfortunately, terrorism, drugs, cross-border crimes and cybercrime as a global problem. One of the most important steps we need to take against them is regional and international cooperation.” he said.
Stating that today's project has been implemented with the preparation made in a very short time with the will of Hungary, Minister Soylu said that the Turkish and Hungarian Police are involved in a joint project today to combat illegal immigration, drugs and cross-border crimes.
Minister Soylu said, “We started this in February 2019 with Serbia. Hundreds of immigrants were caught. Many drugs were seized and cross-border crimes were intervened. I believe that much stronger results will be achieved with this cooperation, which will be realized first at the 2nd gate of Hungary and then at the 3rd gate.” said.
Noting that the deep-rooted relations between Turkey and Hungary have become stronger as a result of the steps taken by both the Turkish and Hungarian governments, Minister Soylu also thanked the Hungarian Minister for the hospitality shown to him and his delegation.
In his speech, Pinter said that cooperation areas were discussed at the YDSK meeting, and in this context, ensuring border security, illegal immigration and combating human smugglers were also discussed.
Stating that upon the proposal of Minister Soylu, the issue of the Turkish Police working on the Hungarian border was discussed, Mr. Pinter said, “We are grateful for this offer of Turkey and we accept it respectfully.” said.
Mr. Pinter stated that within the scope of the agreement, Turkey will assign 50 police officers in Hungary.
It is envisaged that 25 police officers will be assigned in Hungary at the first stage, and then this number will be increased to 50.
