TCDD Transportation General Directorate Celebrates its 6th Anniversary in the New Year

Our General Directorate of TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ, which was established as a railway train operator on January 1, 2017 with the law on the liberalization of railway transportation, is entering its 2022th year on the first day of 6.

As the TCDD Tasimacilik family, we continue our efforts to provide a better and better service to our citizens, on the basis of internalizing the safety culture, in this six-year period.

2021 was a very productive and dynamic year for the railway sector.

As of March 2020, passenger transport has been significantly affected due to the pandemic experienced by the whole world, while railway has come to the fore in freight transport.

With the normalization decisions, high-speed train services and capacity in passenger transportation were increased step by step, while conventional train services were restarted on 12 July 2021. Our number of passengers, which was 2020 million 99 thousand in 467, reached 2021 million in December 123.

The number of passengers carried by our high-speed trains, which serve 13 percent of our country's population with a total of 44 cities on Ankara-Istanbul, Ankara-Eskişehir, Ankara-Konya, Konya-Istanbul YHT lines and with YHT-connected train or bus combined transportation, has exceeded 60 million.

As TCDD Tasimacilik, we continue our efforts to meet the increasing passenger demand. In this context, we are expanding our high-speed train fleet both to meet the increasing passenger demand and to serve on the lines planned to be opened for new operation. The last of the 2019 YHT sets, which we have received in stages since 12, was brought to our country in February 2021. Thus, our YHT fleet reached 31 units.

While increasing the number of comfortable, comfortable, state-of-the-art YHT flights, we started "Express YHT" flights between Ankara and Istanbul, shortening the travel time by 25 minutes.

While the number of passengers carried by YHT reaches before the pandemic, we are working to increase our average number of passengers, which was 23 thousand per day, to 30 thousand passengers per day with the new YHT services.

Our conventional trains, which have been suspended for a while due to the pandemic and serve 49 thousand passengers a day, have been re-started as of July 12, 2021. We contribute greatly to the revival of tourism with our trains such as the Eastern Express, Van Lake Express, Lakes Express, Kurtalan Express, which attract great attention from domestic and foreign tourists.

Again, we started the Touristic Eastern Express flights, which were put on the tour for tourism purposes and took a break due to the pandemic, on December 15, 2021, with the presence of our Minister Adil Karaismailoğlu.

Our Başkentray and Marmaray trains, which provide intra-city transportation, continue to serve even on the days of full closure.

Gebze- Halkalı The number of passengers has exceeded 621 million in Marmaray, which serves on the line, and in Başkentray, which serves between Kayaş and Sincan, the number of passengers has exceeded 40 million 200 thousand.

While we carried out a total of 2020 million tons of freight transport in 29.9, we achieved significant increases in 2021 compared to the previous year. Our international freight transport increased by a significant 2021% in 2020 compared to the same period of 25.

While the transports made over the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Line, which was put into operation in 2017, increased by 100 percent every year, the transports made so far have exceeded 1 million 300 thousand tons in total.

It was a milestone for our export trains to reach Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation, and China via BTK.

A new North-South corridor was created with the Turkey-Russia (Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan-Russia) railway transports started over the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Line, enabling the transportation of different destinations and different product groups.

Despite the epidemic conditions between Turkey and Iran, a 2020 percent increase in freight was achieved in 60 compared to the previous year. The commissioning of the newly built Van Lake Ferries, which increases the existing capacity and speed, provides very important advantages in transportation towards Iran.

Efforts are also continuing to transport cargo to Afghanistan, Pakistan and China via Iran. Flour transports organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization were carried out from Çatalca-Van route to Afghanistan via Iran-Turkmenistan. In addition, studies continue for the resumption of scheduled freight train services between Turkey and Pakistan, within the scope of the Organization for Economic Cooperation, via Iran.

Truck body transportation, which is one of the systems that reflects the economic, social and environmental benefits of intermodal transportation, has become an important alternative in reducing the problems caused by the restrictions on road crossings with Europe, especially after the Covid-19 epidemic.

While the railway investment share, which was 2020 percent in 48, reached 2023 percent in 63, it is expected to reach a total of 2023 thousand 17 kilometers of railway line in 500.

The railway, which has come to the fore as the transportation system of the 21st century, is developing day by day as one of the cornerstones in the construction of the Turkey of the future, and it forms the main backbone of our country's goal of being a logistics base.

As the General Directorate of TCDD Taşımacılık AŞ, I wish our 6th year to be beneficial for our Turkey and our industry, and on behalf of the TCDD Transportation family, I wish that the year 2022 will bring health, peace and tranquility to the whole world.
