Karsan and Mor Salkım Women's Solidarity Association Signed a Protocol to Support Gender Equality and Fight Against Domestic Violence!

Karsan, the leading name of the Turkish automotive industry, has taken an important step towards making gender equality a part of the working culture and supporting the fight against domestic violence. The company, which implemented a protocol with the International Labor Organization (ILO) Turkey Office in 2019 to improve gender equality in working life and increase women's employment; It also signed a cooperation protocol with Mor Salkım Women's Solidarity Association and Counseling Center. Within the protocol; Providing support to Karsan employees and their relatives by the association, directing women who receive service from the association and request a job to Karsan's Human Resources department, employees who are exposed to or witness domestic violence benefit from the violence hotline of the association free of charge, and the information of women receiving consultancy services is kept confidential is aimed.

Leaving behind half a century after its establishment, Karsan continues its efforts to make gender equality a part of its working culture. The company, which signed a protocol with the International Labor Organization (ILO) Turkey Office in 2019 to improve gender equality in working life and increase women's employment; launched a new collaboration. Karsan collaborated with Mor Salkım Women's Solidarity Association and Counseling Center on combating domestic violence against women within the scope of the "Gender Equality Policy" and "Zero Tolerance to Violence Policy", which was prepared as a result of its work with the ILO within the framework of the target of "Developing Workplace Policies Regarding Domestic Violence Against Women". signed the protocol.

To the signing ceremony held; The Founder and President of Mor Salkım Women's Solidarity Association Dilek Üzümcüler, Member of the Board of Directors Burcu Üzümcüler Özyadin and the members of the association, Karsan Financial Affairs and Finance Deputy General Manager Kenan Kaya, Karsan Human Resources Manager Mücahit Korkut, Karsan equality committee members and Kıraça Holding executives attended. The ceremony, which started with Karsan's introductory presentation, continued with the speeches of Dilek Üzümcüler, the Founder and President of Mor Salkım Women's Solidarity Association, and Burcu Üzümcüler Özyadin, Member of the Board of Directors. Both names gave detailed information about the activities, goals and projects of the association. Speaking at the ceremony, Karsan Human Resources Manager Mücahit Korkut talked about Karsan's gender equality journey and touched upon the milestones of this journey.

The protocol has a validity period of five years!

With the protocol, it is aimed to direct women who receive service from the association and need employment support to Karsan's human resources department, and to provide consultancy services to women working in Karsan who reach the Mor Salkım Women's Counseling and Solidarity Center. Within the protocol, which has a validity period of five years; Confidentiality of personal information is taken as a basis within the framework of privacy policies and the provisions of the legal legislation on the protection of personal data.

The violence hotline of the association is at your service 7 hours a day, 24 days a week!

With the protocol, it is also aimed to provide voluntary cooperation in awareness activities that can be carried out on combating violence, if requested by Karsan. In addition, dissemination of the association within the company, organization of seminars, trainings and meetings within the scope of combating violence against women, in case the employees are exposed to or witness domestic violence, Karsan directs the said persons to the violence hotline of the association, which provides services 7 hours a day, 24 days a week, and requests consultancy services. It is aimed to keep the information of women who are involved in confidentiality.

Mor Salkım Women's Solidarity Association; She carries out national and international studies on the fight against domestic violence against women and gender equality. Mor Salkım Women's Solidarity Association, which is among the few non-governmental organizations in Turkey within the scope of its activities, is the only organization in Bursa that provides women's counseling and solidarity services on a voluntary basis.

Milestones of Karsan's gender equality journey…

In 2019, Karsan signed a protocol with the ILO Turkey Office to improve gender equality and increase women's employment. With the said protocol, the company committed to implement the ILO's Model for the Promotion of Gender Equality in Companies at Karsan. Last year, Karsan signed the "Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs)" created in partnership with the UN Global Compact and the UN Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment Unit (UN Women). Later, Karsan published two important policies to underline its sensitivity on this issue. As a reflection of the work done with the ILO, the company has adopted the “Gender Equality Policy” and the “Gender Equality Policy” within the scope of the International 25-Day Campaign to Combat Gender-Based Violence, which started with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Solidarity on November 10 and ended with the Human Rights Day on December 16. It created the “Zero Tolerance to Violence Policy”.

Equal pay policy for equal work!

Karsan, the first company that created the Zero Tolerance to Violence Policy, the first workplace policy developed in accordance with ILO principles and ILO Convention No. 190 on the Prevention of Violence and Harassment at Work, is the first company to implement it in Turkey. It was the first institution to receive the "Zero Tolerance to Violence" trainings given by the ILO Academy, the training platform. The “Karsan Positive Equality Committee”, which was formed with the participation of employees working in different departments under the leadership of the human resources unit, aims to take the necessary measures to increase women's employment by carrying out gender equality studies throughout the company. Believing that inequalities in remuneration have an important place among gender issues, the company adopts the policy of equal pay for equal work in this direction.
